Growing up the typical house was around 1500 Sq ft and that's plenty
Where did you grow up, I started out in one of the most pissant towns in Texas in the 70s and 1500 was still pretty small by then.

In contrast to the OP's anecdote, I recently listened to a podcast about how downsizing is even less of a thing because as people become empty nesters they now want those spare bedrooms for a home gym, office, etc.

That said, in my old townhome neighborhood in Houston, they main demographics were young adults and older, retired or close to retired couples.
