Crypto.com sounds like Robinhood for crypto. Stay away from it.

And the ABML is strong in this thread.

I have been using Voyager with some fun money, but think about using a decent chunk of change going forward. Is Voyager still a good option or are there better platforms/methods?

Dayum, where did YFI come from?

And what the hell is it?!

Quote:

Yearn.finance is an aggregator service for decentralized finance (DeFi) investors, using automation to allow them to maximize profits from yield farming.

Its goal is to simplify the ever-expanding DeFi space for investors who are not technically minded or who wish to interact in a less committal manner than serious traders.

Launched in February 2020, the service, formerly known as iEarn, has seen huge growth in recent months as new products debuted and developers released in-house token YFI.

Man, crypto.com still hasn't verified my account! I'd like to throw a little lunch money at it.

Mine either. I ended up buying it through uniswap. Total pain in the ass. No clue how to sell it but I assume that won't be an issue for a while.

I want to try this just to see if I can make some meme coin money. What's the process for this? Anything to be careful of?

How are y'all funding crypto.com? Tried linking my Chase CC but had an instant rejection with no flags or notifications when I sign into my chase acct. I'm looking to add a few coins on crypto.com I don't have access to on Coinbase.

I am no expert. I muddled my way through it twice. Once for safemoon and once for shiba. The fees are very high. There could be a way around it but I don't know what it is. Maybe someone else can chime in.

Chase declined all four of my debit card purchases. Called the fraud number to tell them it was in fact me and the next attempt worked each time.

What were the fees? What did you have to set the slippage to on uniswap?

so let's discuss risk here....

The third world stands to benefit most from access to cryptos. it's already a huge thing in africa. is the worry about US regulation really warranted? It's a global concept at this point. I see risk in BTC because of it's heavy consolidation in China, but many of the other currencies are much better distributed. as those countries become larger users of the platforms, connection stability could become a risk.

Security seems like a risk. If a blockchain is hacked that's a doomsday scenario. A project like that will demand quantum computing power, which at this point seems like an eventuality rather than a possibility.

Investor sentiment could turn, but it seems like insitutional adoption is creating a bit of a floor for the larger coins. There's going to have to be an extinction event eventually that wipes out the extraneous/non-viable, but it is probably naive to think that the top of the class won't grow in relevance.

Aside from that, it seems that pandora is out of the box and the uses for these platforms will only continue to grow in relevance. i guess the main question is, what values will the cryptos themselves demand vs the value the platforms create.

super interesting stuff for sure....

I hold ADA, BTC, ETH & XLM

Decided better late than never with Crypto so I've been researching and working to open an account. I have Kraken all setup and verified, added them as a wire transfer recipient and saw that no matter now much I send, Chase bank charges a $25 wire fee. That's not going to work so I'm back to square one it seems. Is Coinbase or Coinbase Pro my next best option or should I go with something easy like Uphold?

I think Coinbase is as easy as it gets. Especially if you are new and only plan to buy and hold BTC, ETH, and maybe some of the more popular Alt coins.

Only thing I don't like about Coinbase is that it doesn't tell you what your total return is for each coin, just charts on the daily/weekly/monthly/all time gain or loss

That was my understanding as well but thought I'd float the question to see if I was missing anything, thanks!

To add to this, my take away in getting setup is Binance is the best, but doesn't work in Texas. Kraken seemed to be the next most recommended but they only allow deposit via wire transfer, so coinbase seems to be the easiest choice. Will likely go coinbase pro looking at the fee structure.

I need some help understanding taxes for swapping ETH for SHIB.

If I swap $50 worth of ETH for SHIB which is about $0.000028 per SHIB, what are the taxes owed on that swap?

There are many risks, and there is no way to value this space. Only invest what you are willing to lose.

I don't see how you can get taxed on a loss, but then again we're in a crazy new world.

I don't think so at this point. The cat is out of the bag already. So many people own it and institutions investing it would be political suicide to do anything. The USA conceding Bitcoin to the Chinese would be a bigger risk than them starting to invest themselves.

Bigger risk is the environmental problem with bitcoin mining than regulatory risk IMO. But we'll see if the tune changes when the next bear market hits.

The biggest question for me on the risk/adoption front is what the US does with their own Digital Dollar. It's unknown still how that will be implemented. Will it work in conjunction with BTC and be a parallel system or will the US regulate crypto to the outskirts of the dark web and not want any competition with their own crypto?

We don't know yet.

I know this, but I'm trying to understand how the IRS would even know about the swap and how they would figure out which specific fraction of an ETH I bought at X time was used during the swap. I've bought ETH at $2400 and at $3300. What if I buy $50 worth of ETH now (and price doesn't go up on that new purchase), and I immediately use that to swap into SHIB? How will they know if I used the new ETH with no profit versus the older ETH that definitely made a profit?

And also did you ever really "take profit" if you swapped eth for shib directly? For example if this was Apple and Exxon stock you couldn't buy Exxon stock with portions of your apple stock you have to sell apple (take profit) and buy Exxon with the profit. No USD profit was taken in the crypto example.

Now when shib moons or whatever and op takes his profits as USD that's a pretty easy calculation original USD amount used to buy eth that became shib vs the profit op pulls in the end. When the end happens and proving it is probably why I still don't know what I'm talking about.

Apparently the IRS would consider swapping to be an instantaneous sale of ETH and then a purchase of SHIB.
