Edited to simplify my argument on horse buggy and bitcoin.

Great Horse Manure Crisis of 1894
by Ben Johnson

By the late 1800s, large cities all around the world were "drowning in horse manure". In order for these cities to function, they were dependent on thousands of horses for the transport of both people and goods.

In 1900, there were over 11,000 hansom cabs on the streets of London alone. There were also several thousand horse-drawn buses, each needing 12 horses per day, making a staggering total of over 50,000 horses transporting people around the city each day.

To add to this, there were yet more horse-drawn carts and drays delivering goods around what was then the largest city in the world.

This huge number of horses created major problems. The main concern was the large amount of manure left behind on the streets. On average a horse will produce between 15 and 35 pounds of manure per day, so you can imagine the sheer scale of the problem. The manure on London's streets also attracted huge numbers of ies which then spread typhoid fever and other diseases.

Each horse also produced around 2 pints of urine per day and to make things worse, the average life expectancy for a working horse was only around 3 years. Horse carcasses therefore also had to be removed from the streets. The bodies were often left to putrefy so the corpses could be more easily sawn into pieces for removal.

The streets of London were beginning to poison its people.

But this wasn't just a British crisis: New York had a population of 100,000 horses producing around 2.5m pounds of manure a day.

This problem came to a head when in 1894, The Times newspaper predicted… "In 50 years, every street in London will be buried under nine feet of manure."

This became known as the 'Great Horse Manure Crisis of 1894'.

The terrible situation was debated in 1898 at the world's first international urban planning conference in New York, but no solution could be found. It seemed urban civilisation was doomed.

However, necessity is the mother of invention, and the invention in this case was that of motor transport. Henry Ford came up with a process of building motor cars at affordable prices. Electric trams and motor buses appeared on the streets, replacing the horse-drawn buses.

By 1912, this seemingly insurmountable problem had been resolved; in cities all around the globe, horses had been replaced and now motorised vehicles were the main source of transport and carriage.

Even today, in the face of a problem with no apparent solution, people often quote 'The Great Horse Manure Crisis of 1894', urging people not to despair, something will turn up!

The horse and buggy was a technological innovation, it was usurped nearly completely as a useful tool by the locomotive. It is still useful, but there aren't even 2 million horses in the United States. The economic value of the horse and buggy is so godawful on an ROI compared to the alternatives that it's almost completely a entertainment sideshow.

Now, I like to think the same characteristics of the horse and buggy and its mountains of horse crap problems that came with it are similar to gold, a gold standard and fiat standards and that bitcoin absolves us of the same manure problem we are currently experiencing via our debt based shi*-conomy.

I apologize for any animosity I displayed. I really just wanted to bring up the horse manure crisis.

Gold is infinite in the regard that more can be mined if there is a sudden increase in it's value that justifies the cost to mine more.
Quote:

he did not imply gold is infinite, he correctly pointed out that its supply is influenced by its demand.
He pointed this out and then quickly followed it up by saying that there are only 21 million Bitcoin. Logic tells me that he is trying to imply that Gold can just keep being mined forever/whenever on Earth while Bitcoin has a set limit. Gold has a set limit as well. We cannot get to all of it here no matter what the price is. It takes years to build a successful Gold mine. In that time frame of building the infrastructure lots of things can happen that disrupt it. Environmentalists getting it shut down, new political parties in whatever country deciding to pull the plug for whatever reason. Sudden price drops that make ROI no longer attainable. Many prospective mines fail to come to fruition. Bitcoin is not immune to similar problems either. See China kicking out miners or whatever the hell is happening in Kazakhstan for some example.

It is important to keep in mind that the easiest to reach deposits for Gold have mostly been found.. and mined.

We have been chasing Gold for Millenia.. and the entire sum of the above ground supply that we have could fit in 4 Olympic sized swimming pools.

...worldwide grass roots adoption that has led to institutional investor action as well as countries beginning to legally accept or have strategies to acquire the asset.
I'm mostly asking a question in my reply to this, because I do not know and would like to be enlightened. Which first world Central Banks/Governments are loading up on Bitcoin? I know of plenty that have been loading Gold or moving their Gold back home. I'm aware of places like El Salvador adopting Bitcoin, but I haven't heard much about the first world making such moves. Maybe they are.

Gold is readily recognized the world over for its value. Is Bitcoin?

I am just now seeing your response. I don't know if you are on a jounery to truly understand or simply argue but I once believed gold was the defacto standard for store of value.

I feel that your comment focusing on only first world adoption misses the mark on the problem Bitcoin solves.

Central banks role is not to acquire gold or Bitcoin, but to stabilize it's nation monetary system through a number of mechanisms independent of the government. The gold standard was abandoned decades ago and every first world currency is fiat and no longer linked to gold since 1973. They are the "banks bank" and control the money printer enabling them to control inflation a number of different ways.

The question you should ask is how many Elected Officials of these countries are acquiring Bitcoin vs gold? You will have to do the research as most of us have, but social media is an easy avenue to learn.

In regards to countries adopting Bitcoin, the skepticism is valid but one data point to consider as you do more research to drive your knowledge further (if you truly want to learn) is that El Salvador while a small and a poor country that is considered "third world", you must consider that Italy could classify as a developing nation/third world class due to is social and economic statistics. I make that statement because first world, second world (mostly communist block) and third world (developing nation) should not drive your frame of mind in my opinion. With that being said, due to El Salvador being a sovereign nation that is part of the United Nation and World Trade Organization, their acceptance of Bitcoin as "legal" tender by extension requires their allies/members to recognize it as a form of currency. This does not mean these other members must accept Bitcoin in their own countries but it is the pebble in the water for acknowledgement of it's legitimacy.

Off hand;
Mine bitcoin
Buy bitcoin directly p2p from a miner
Find an OTC broker who has kyc-free btc
Eventually coinjoin will/should make more kycfree coins available or at least coins will be obfuscated enough that kycfree may not matter.

Elected officials always want the most fungible assets. Especially the corrupt ones.

That's why despite all the bans, in soviet Russia dollar was the king and could be used to bribe any level of authority. It was the hardest most fungible asset to store their energy/labor over time and space.

And the answer as to why would xyz do anything with bitcoin?

It's because everyone else will be is doing it with bitcoin and the cost of being the last is atrociously expensive.

I had a bank president call me about how they had a guy talking to them about crypto, and how "they" wouldn't allow something or another to happen because it would take away the ability of the bank to practice fractional reserve banking... I was like yes this is the point.

He was certain it wouldn't be allowed....and I was like hey man, there's already businesses popping up daily to drink your milkshake, like unchained capital, making business/bitcoin loans and working in the new world.

Adapt or die. Bitcoin exists and doesn't have to do **** to work with you. You'll have to figure out how your business model fits into bitcoin. Not vice versa.

Interesting viewpoint and I can see how such things could eventually come to pass.

btw, I still hold and have recently added more Bitcoin. I'm holding it more from a speculative nature, not so much as a true believer. I guess that could change. It's not my intention to come across like I'm trying to come in here and tear it down. I just like the odd bit of debate sometimes :P

Random Question:

Do you think governments/globalists could be behind the flood of sh*tcoins coming to market in an effort to dilute things?.. Or is this mostly just independent capitalists looking to score a quick buck by riding the hype?

I appreciate the transparency in your comment. I am a big believer in "don't tell me what you think but what is in your wallet" type approach to this subject.

I believe that the current statistic is 97% of the world has yet to purchase a single shatosi (I could very much be wrong here) so the skepticism and reluctance is very strong for a majority of people to reasonably discuss this topic. That being said I am open to discuss it to a degree and 80 percent of my crypto portfolio is BTC. The other ****coins are a pure speculative play for me due to my beliefs on what eventually plays out from a worldwide perspective.

The question I am asked weekly is what is the tipping point for mass adoption?

The current fundamental aspects of BTC has driven adoption to the~250M worldwide wallet mark in 13 years. What needs to occur for the next 250M to acquire a few Sats? This is the discussion that intrigues me most.

Public debate and mass media awareness and maturation. Bitcoin doesn't need to do anything, everyone and everything is maturing around bitcoin. Not vice versa.

Just more time without a global disaster that ruins the planet forcing humanity back into caves waiting it out.

I don't know CRP as well as Rockport. CRP is a weird city, but I've grown to like it the more I've been down there. I would say just stay around downtown on the water while there. That place has a ton of potential if someone with vision cared enough to act on it. You can walk around downtown pretty easily and there are some neat places to hang out. There is a bar called the BUS(?) bar. It used to be the old Greyhound station that has been converted into this bar with large outdoor area. Weather might be nice for that.

The Vietnam Restaurant downtown is pretty damn good for Vietnamese food. We always hit that. That area has quite a few Vietnamese refugees so you can find some good Asian food. There is apparently a new good restaurant in the Art Museum called Elizabeth's. And wife recommends Surf Club downtown. That's kind of an institution down there. She also said there is a good bar/restaurant called The Post which is in Lamar Park area. And just driving Ocean Drive is kind of neat to see all of the houses.

Some will probably call me a moron for saying this, but I think Corpus is basically a San Diego starter kit if they really wanted to do some cool stuff there. I think the locals are mostly content keeping things mostly as is though.

Rockport is a quiet place when there isn't one of seemingly 10 festivals they have per year going on. First and foremost, I would get a fishing guide and go fishing as that is Rockport's claim to fame (and art galleries).

I assume y'all have rented an AirBNB in Key Allegro? Places to hit:

  • Latitude 2802 - seafood in downtown; also has some cool art on walls you can peruse and buy.
  • Glow - very small chef driven restaurant; we haven't eaten there in a long time but it's been good when we did.
  • Key Allegro Yacht Club - seafood in Key Allegro but someone has to be a member to get in; not sure what your situation is on that.
  • 495 Chesapeake Eats - This place is pretty new and alot of people like it; I don't think it that's great. I think people think it's the bee knees because it's not your normal Texas gulf coast seafood they always have. It's a Massachusetts kind of place. Meh.
  • Apple Dumpling Deli - for sandwiches.
  • Shempy's Grill - out on the highway 35 between Rockport and Aransas Pass. This is a must do if you want a dive restaurant. It's awesome.
  • Paradise Key - this is a big, loud touristy restaurant/bar at the Cove Marina where all the boats launch. If y'all want something like that then go there.
  • Los Comales - for Mexican. There are several Mexican places there, but this is the best one in our opinion.
  • Bellino's - for Italian.
  • The Groove - decent pizza; they do it in a wood fire oven.
  • There is a small walk-up coffee place called Duck Blind in Fulton that you can hit if you want coffee made by someone else. There is also one on the side of an art gallery in downtown Rockport. Art gallery is some dude's name; we actually have some of his stuff in the house, but I'm blanking on his name.
  • The Italian Cowboy - basically a small scale Eatzi's that offers really nice Italian food, wine, art, etc. Go here if you want to get good wine for the house. A married couple own it and run it. The wife is an absolute mask Nazi so just FYI on that.
  • Spanky's by HEB for liquor. They also have a surprisingly decent wine selection if you want more California wine. I actually found a bottle of Penfold's Grange in that Spanky's once which blew my damn mind that they had that.
  • Get a fishing guide and go fishing.
  • Fulton is the sister town to Rockport about 3 minutes away. Downtown Fulton has a pocket of restaurants you can hit for lunch or dinner. We mostly eat there for lunch at Moondog's which is basically an outdoor fish sandwich/burger kind of place.
  • Walk downtown Rockport; there are 8-10 art galleries which is kind of Rockport's thing. Some of it is chintzy trash but there is some good stuff down there if you spend some time. There is a wine bar in the back of one of the stores, but I can't remember which one.
  • Bay Window - for your wife's shopping needs
  • Lady Captain - for your wife's shopping needs; my wife knows these folks; they are good people.
  • Go to Aransas Pass and take the ferry over to Port A. It's not far at all and if you have kids with y'all they probably would enjoy that if they've never been in a car...on a boat. I can't speak too much to Port A but there is a lot of kid tourist stuff over there.

There are a few more restaurants around but those are the ones we regularly hit when we go.

And if you have ever wanted to experience hell on earth, check out the Rockport 4th of July Art Festival. Lol. We go down there every July 4th and I always tell wife I want to go.

And then we drive by it, and I question my sanity and keep driving.

I'm invested in the following:

Bitcoin
Ethereum
Cardano
Solana
Avalanche
Chainlink
Polkadot
Algorand
Aave
Polygon
Cosmos
Uniswap
Vechain

Most of these are more established, platform / layer 1 coins so they aren't gonna be 1000x coins but they also are safer bets to be around a few years from now. You can get all of these except VET on Coinbase. I don't own Luna / Terra but that's another one worth looking in to.
