Are certain companies/industries exempt from paying time and a half or whatever the rate is? Just curious because my teenager worked today...there was mention of extra pay but they didn't pay extra last year.

completely depends who you work for. companies don't have to pay 1.5x on holidays, but in my experience most do. many only do on a few holidays like thanksgiving, christmas, new years for example.

Agreed, no law says they have to pay any more than any other day. No law says you have to get any days off either. Know the company policy, that's the rule.
