Not trying to sound like a Debbie Downer...

Speaking more broadly, this very well may be the high we have for the next few years IMO, if we can't close above the 200 day MA on the S&P. We did this during May 2008, when it failed to breach it, thru March 2012, to get back to even on the S&P.

Let the S&P close above 3,000 and then again for a second day if you're conservative like I am.

Today? Nobody. I only buy when the TV people sound scared and report stuff like biggest drop ever, trading halted, bear territory, recession, and stuff like that.

I like to put a portion of my investments in non-traditional vehicles. Love life insurance investments right now. Have a couple of units, $18K in for a $140k net return spread out over about 10 years.

5 different policies in the investment so you get paid as each individual passes away. There is a annual cash call to maintain the policies, but those also decrease as folks pass away and money is paid out.

I like them because the market can completely crash and so can O&G and it does not affect the investment one bit.

I'm continuing my buying spree into Charlottes Web and Canopy (both canibis).

I have been buying a little at a time on their way up.

I will tell you that on Charlottes Web especially I am in some autism parenting groups and more and more parents are using their products.

I'm really torn on oil and gas. Don't want to miss the buying bottom there. Not sure what to do.

July 11 is a bit later than expected. Still, surprised it had basically null effect on stocks today.

Absolutely annihilated it in afternoon trading. Let's see what happens the rest of the week. Positive signs today.

Not sure what you mean on buying the bottom, but at least on the equities I purchased - PXD, CVX, COP, EOG, FANG, XLE - I'm up over 55 percent not including the dividend yield in a little over two months time. That window may have closed a few weeks ago.

Over the last few weeks, I've taken positions in EPD and MMP for the dividends.
Bought OXY last week, but wondering if that was the right move.
I love LUV, and bought it a couple of weeks ago.
I added to my position in NVDA last week. That stock is NOT for the weak at heart.
Wish I hadn't day traded EAT six weeks ago and just held it. Same with COOP.

Yes I sold my DRI and 3/4 of my EAT about the same time as you. Made out like a bandit and have reinvested profits, but I wish I would have stayed in those a little more. I think there's still room for casino and airline upsides as higher risk plays. After those if the reopening look good I'll look harder at hotels that have taken a beating but might be poised to make it back.

Today I took a little airline profit early and in the afternoon bought more SPTN calls and MIK puts.

I do not believe in OXY, but I'll argue both sides.

Bear:
Their price and market cap dropped significantly BEFORE oil prices collapsed. The merger and accepting the Buffet preferred equity presupposed that a lot of things would go right over the next two years. Things have not gone right.

They needed to move ~$15 billion worth of assets to get their balance sheet in order.
  • $7 billion was supposed to come from selling their stake in WES, but so far there haven't been any takers even after the market cap collapsed to $4 billion
  • $5 billion was supposed to come from selling African assets to Total, but that deal fell through
  • $1.5 billion of it did come through via a JV partnership, although I'm pretty hazy on the details of that
  • They haven't been able to sell off other little pieces

Now the pref is diluting the common shares by 6% annually because they are paying the dividend in common shares. Their credit rating is falling, their bonds are trading well below face below, they have $11 billion in debt coming due over the next couple years, and they don't generate cash at current prices. The common equity is behind the bonds and pref if it comes to BK.

Bull:
Their price is beat down into the gutter and they have a ton of complementary assets. There is a case to be made that oil prices could come roaring back next summer. If that happens and OXY can stick it out, they could start making money and be in a position to roll their debt. In that case, they would be one heck of a beta play and you could be looking at a 4x return about 14-18 months from now.

If you want a bit of a gamble, NINE could be in a good spot to do well.

More conservative and a longer hold strategy I'd look at SABR.

You also cant go too wrong with an OVV, MRO or even COP (other big oil stocks too).

OVV is one of my fish that got away. I was looking at it when it was trading under $2 a few weeks ago, ended up getting sidetracked with work, and never pulled the trigger. Trading over $8 now.

I'm not sure MRO is a "can't go wrong" stock.

Lumber Liquidators (LL) looks to be making a small comeback. For various reasons its stock plummeted for a couple years. I bought at 5.45 in April and today its 9.55.

GMBL starting a strong run. If you missed out on DKNG/PENN, GMBL is still in cheap range. Averaged in at $4.70.

It's a diff type of gambling, FYI, it is not the same as DKNG/PENN.

now at around $9, has doubled in the last 30 hours.

Kicking myself for not going hard in on Penn when they were down. I think they're poised to make bank on online gambling before long.

I'd take a hard look at GMBL while it's still cheap. Going to take a looksie at GAN as well. I did get into PENN last week as I think it has a ways to run.

Good luck, the action has been interesting to watch. I haven't seen many go that crazy like it did on Friday, but it was beautiful to watch. Was pretty interested to see how it would act today and it seems to be acting pretty strong. DKNG is looking like a monster and GAN is up $3 already. I'm not sure DKNG is going to come back down.

Is GMBL only focused on e-sports? I know there's a market there, but I prefer to buy things I understand better? I'd be interested if they might transition their platform into more traditional sports online gambling.
