For any business, frankly. We are Fortune 200 and have close to a year of cash on hand. That is possibly very rare though.

^^^^^ Great advice I had that happen before and even though nothing was bad there were pictures and texts from my family that were on that phone. I didn't want the ass that fired me going through it and I know he would.

Never again.

Now I always keep a personal phone and if a company wants my laptop and phone they can have it at a moment's notice and it won't bother me.

I've debated this for a long time. I've had a company phone for 15+ years. Lately I've been tempted to have them just calculate what it cost them for me to have a phone and convert that to a monthly stipend.

I just pay for a separate phone. Working for a state agency, my work phone is subject to open records requests in addition to belonging to the state.

No reason for my family and personal information to ever be on my work phone.

Started with 50k in a high yield savings account. Over a 5 year period I converted the 50k into series I bonds (10k per year).

At this point, the I bonds can be withdrawn with no interest penalty. If I haven't used them in 25 years, I'll use them for qualified educational expenses for kids/grandkids (tax free), or I'll make it rain at the Spearmint Rhino after my wife finally kicks me out.
