Not sure if this is the right place to post this.

My nephew (MEEN Graduating Spring 2018) will start interviewing this summer and needs a suit.

Do you recommend Men's Warehouse or Dillard's or someplace else?

TIA.

For a first suit, either of those or Jos A Bank will probably suffice.

For better quality/price ratio, I'd check out Suitsupply. http://us.suitsupply.com/en_US/suits

At Jos A Bank make sure you are getting one of their "buy 1, get ___ free" or you will overpay out the you know what for the quality you get at their retail price. It's like shopping at a fireworks stand.

For someone just needing one suit for interviews the other recommendations should fit the bill nicely.

I bought one from Suit Supply a couple of years ago. I would definitely recommend them. You'll get a much nicer and better fitting suite than the others you mentioned. Just my opinion. And I have owned suits from Men's Wearhouse.

Suit supply is excellent. Blue line starts at 399. Made from 100% wool and great value. I would buy shirts at Ct shirts.com. Can be bad for 30-40 on sales instead of 70-100 at suitsupply. Starter staples are light blue shirt and white shirt. Suitsupply has stores in Houston and the Woodlands and two stores in Dallas.

Suit Supply suits are not cut for the "athletic" body type

If he has a few weeks, I have him get one from Hockerty (formerly Tailor4less). You can get a fairly inexpensive suit that will fit really well because it's made to measure. There are higher quality m2m suits places, but this will be all he needs really.

Something likes this: https://www.hockerty.com/en-us/men/suits/3171-grey-wool-suit or he could customize it for how he wants.

Went to Jos a banks one time for a 38s suit. They had 1 ugly one that size and the salesmen was rude as heck. Never went back.

Bought suits from men's warehouse and Dillard's both were fine but went back to Dillard's a couple of months ago and they had very limited selection of good wool suits

Nordstrom's rack has worked out well for me. I may try the website you all have above

They definitely fit a little more slim, but I'm an "athletic" guy (assuming athletic doesn't = fat) and I have a couple suits from there.

I got my suit at a Macy's one day sale for 50% off. So look out for that too.

...except go a little more classic - this high water metrosexual look can't last forever. Sheesh, I get it - you want to show off your cuff-links, but you don't have to wear clothes sized for a pre-teen cross country runner.

I am close to retirement and don't wear suits nearly as much as I used to. Is there an organization or department at A&M that I can donate some suits to so they can be used by students for interviews?

I haven't bought a suit in several years but I've bought a few dozen over the years. Most have been at Dillards but now Men's Wearhouse isn't a bad place to go. If you know what you're doing, a Dillards outlet MAY be a good place, but just look for those on sale at the regular stores for now.

Stick with the known name brands -- I like Hart Shaffner and Marx. But clothing brands aren't what they used to be as name brands get bought and sold. HSM and Hickey Freemen are (were) two of the higher end brands that are high priced but on sale are reasonable. There may be other good brands but stay away from something like Roundtree and York.

I think flat front pants are still the fashion "in" right now but suits are somewhat timeless. Pleats on suits are fine -- at least I think so. Perhaps the younger crowd doesn't agree but remember that he usually won't be interviewing with someone his age. I'd suggest a 2 button traditional suit and for all that's good, please do not buy an overly fitted suit for a first/job interview suit. Stick with dark navy or preferably dark gray. Get a couple of nice, conservative ties and some WHITE shirts. Yes, boring, I know, but never go into an interview in anything but a white or pale blue shirt. Preferably white. Plain collar (rather than button down) is better.

Don't forget good quality shoes. The leather sole Allen Edmonds are top of the line but honestly, I stick with Eccos and their composite sole. More comfortable and about as good looking.

Good advice. I just gave away 2 suits that were 25 years old, and one that was 15 years old. They looked the same, and I would still wear them if the pants had another 2 inches. If you keep your ties in the middle and resist the urge to wear the sleeves and pants that are 2 inches too short, stuff stays reasonably in style. Stores are still carrying tons of pleats; somebody must be buying them.

I take "athletic" to mean a large drop from chest to waist. I think rack suits are usually made with 0-4" of drop, so a guy with a 40" chest and 32" waist (8" drop) has a hard time finding a good-fitting suit off the rack as the coats don't have enough taper.

Gotcha - that makes sense.

Regarding pleats, I'm not a big fan, but the most important part is that the suit is tailored to fit rather than being loose and slouchy. Plenty of different styles that work for different people.

What sucks is trying to find 48L suits that don't have clown pants to go with it. For that reason I've had to get my latest stuff custom done or buy suit separates.

I certainly would not recommend someone just out of school buy a suit with pleats. Plenty of people buy cargo shorts and Tommy Bahama shirts but that doesn't make it a good look.

I'm in my late 30s and work for a conservative bank and haven't bought a suit with pleats in the last decade. I would agree that if you are buying your first suit a trendy Suit Supply one probably isn't your best bet. And this is coming from someone who likes trendy suits.

I'm a fan of SuitSupply. They carry both trendier and more traditional styles.

I have the blue York suit that I use as my navy suit. I got it before they offered a true Navy version of the Napoli or Lazio. However, it's essentially Navy. My second suit from them is the dark grey Napoli.

Both fit me very well, and they're not tight by any means. On me, they just come across as a well-tailored suit. They're not for every body type, but I use them for business and during job interviews with no issues.
