How long do you want to ignore this user?
My kid is almost a year old and I'm looking into college savings for him that would give better return than just our typical savings account. I've looked into 529 plans but just curious what other alternatives are (besides Coverdell or Roth IRAs).
Mutual funds? ETFs?

Have you looked at Texas Guaranteed Tution? Ive got 2 3 month olds and that's what I'm thinking about doing. While it might not "grow" your money, it might protect you from Tution inflation growing faster than actual inflation.
