what would be feasible/worthwhile to leave EWR to do for a few hours daytime(Dec)? Haven't really explored Jersey area, anywhere interesting doable <$50ish cab/transport fare?

The area around Newark ain't all that great. Honestly, unless you've got enough time to ride the bus over the NYC, I'd just stay at the airport.
