The wife and I are going to take a splurge beach trip for our anniversary and I'm looking for ideas. We're looking for something somewhat secluded and quiet feeling, not a big resort in a major tourist area. One caveat we're trying to work around is relatively easy travel. We'll be leaving small kids with grandparents and my wife is hesitant to be in a place where getting home in a pinch would be a hassle if need be.

I know "secluded and quiet" is generally at odds with "easy to get to" but I'm just seeing what options are out there. We spent a week at Little Dix on Virgin Gorda years ago and it was incredible. We might just go back there, but between multiple legs of flights and a boat transfer to the island my wife really wants to go somewhere with less travel logistics.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

I second St. John. Can fly direct into St. Thomas then 20 min water ferry to St. John. Rent a jeep and a VRBO with a great view and hit a different tropical beach and beach bar every day. Lots of great spots in the Caribbean but St. John's is very hard to beat.

St John's would be terrific but what I'm also hearing you say is importance on your wife's end to be able to get home if need be. A direct flight might be important. I understand both of these as traveling away from littles is challenging as I did so when my girls were small but so rewarding for the two of you and marriage.

very good point! the quieter areas tend to be harder to get to. . while the ferry is the only way to get to st. john, you at least have the direct flight option to st thomas.

and direct flights to a lot of the caribbean can be tough. it's one thing if you're flying from dfw/iah, and a whole other if you're flying from amarillo.

We're in the same boat as you. We like the harder-to-get-to islands - and know they are that for a reason.

I don't know if this helps you or not, but AA is starting a direct MIA - EIS route this summer (June 1?).

Having also been to the BVIs, this would theoretically eliminate one of your legs.

Edit to add:
Anguilla or Eleuthera might fit your bill. We are returning to Anguilla for the third time in a couple of months.

OP, have you thought about the Victoria House on Ambergris Caye, Belize? It may be what you are hunting for.

Flights to most of the southern Caribbean islands suck this year. 45 minute layover in Miami or a 40 minute in Atlanta. Coming back 95 minutes (which is doable if not backed up). With that said:

Jade Mountain, St. Lucia
Hermitage Bay, Antigua
Ambergris Cay, Turks and Caicos
Cap Juluca, Anguilla
Jumby Bay, Antigua
Rosewood Little Dix, BVI

Casa de Campo gets tons of love, but it isn't small, its actually a very spread out resort, but has villas with private pools and everyone has golf carts. (Dominican Republic).

Four Seasons Nevis. Fly into St. Kitts and a boat straight to the hotel.

And there is a casino on St. Kitts!
