Looking to take my staff skiing in February. Cloudcroft caught my eye as a low key, smaller crowd , more affordable etc. area …but looks like snow quality and quantity could be a concern.

Anyone been and love it?

Other option is to do ruidoso and ski Apache.

Would be a thurs-Sunday. Ski fri/sat type trip.

Snow is very hit or miss in both, and with another la Nina winter shaping up it isn't looking all that promising. Ski Apache has much better coverage of artificial snow and thus to me is a safer bet from being a complete dud of a ski trip. Ruidoso also has more to do for non-skiers if you are trying to make sure everyone in a large group still has a good time.

I'm in Cloudcroft a lot. I'd pick Ruidoso for skiing without a 2nd thought. That "Ski mountain" looks pretty disappointing

Love cloudcroft but I wouldnt recommend for skiing if you really want to ski. Like above said, snow is very hit or miss there and good odds you show up and they are just closed.

Agreed, both are very hit or miss but Ski Apache gives you your best chance at decent snow.

How is New Mexico for skiing during Spring Break? Word is this is supposed to be a pretty long winter.

Hit or miss. Often thin and icy, especially Ruidoso. Red River and northern mountains have better odds.

Living in NM, I would recommend Taos, Santa Fe, Red River, etc. over both Ruidoso and Coudcroft. Snow in Cloudcroft is hit and miss as noted, but if there is snow, then it is a good place for beginners to learn. Just not a fan of the Ruidoso mountain. Tends to get over crowded. Santa Fe, Red River, and Angel Fire all have a wide range of slopes. Taos is excellent but more suited to experienced skiers in general.
