Rising COVID-19 case counts along with all four of Aspen Valley Hospital's ICU beds full Thursday, half of them with COVID-19 patients, was enough evidence for the Pitkin County board of health to unanimously agree to empower the public health director to craft a new indoor-mask mandate.
2 Covid patients in ICU

So, a county which boasts the 7th highest per capita income in the US. Is home to two of the most popular resorts in Colorado.

Has one hospital with 4 ICU beds.......
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

Fewer than 20,000 residents in the county. How many icu beds should they need??

1.5 million visits to the mountain each year, they are counting the same people over and over again, even the locals. Not uncommon for a local to get 60 plus days on the mountain and visitors are going to get multiple visits each trip. That number is not tourists.

And people that are visiting Aspen are typically not in need of ICU, if it is serious, they are often transferred to Denver or Grand Junction. And there are hospitals in other areas too in the mountains, Glenwood Springs, Eagle County, Summit County.

The ICU is probably adequate for the local residents. Seems like you are purposely trying to dramatize this situation.

If there ever was a time for a person to get out and enjoy where you live and live life, now would be the time and you are that person.

Which I am sure both are over 50 and overweight or have pre-existing.

Been to Aspen/Snowmass (Pitkin County) several times in the last year. The Pitkin County website at various points made it seem like AK carrying health official and police were going to be arresting people on sight and shuttering businesses that don't comply with their mandates. The reality was much different on every trip. Mandate enforcement was very relaxed on the mountains, in town and at restaurants.

What would be an appropriate number of ICU beds? At what cost? If they added ICU beds what would be an acceptable amount of days they sit unused?

Convenient they waited until after Aspen Food and Wine Classic with a few thousand people in attendance to roll out mask mandate. Shows you this is just political power moves and stupid.
