The wife and I (located in DFW) are looking to do a quick getaway second week of December for 4-5 days. Would ideally like to go someplace with a little snow even though we are both not skiers. Was thinking of going to the Great Smokey Mountains in Gatlinburg to hike a little bit, but it would be a 3.5-4 hour drive from Nashville or Atlanta and not wanting to waste that much time driving. Denver was also on the table, but prices are kinda steep. Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

If you're looking for snow, I would say you're much more likely to NOT see snow in that area (Gatlinburg) that time of year.

If Denver was pricey, Park City and Jackson Hole are probably not options.

What about Angel Fire or Red River, NM?

Or Sipapu, if you want to go old school and cheap.

Conway, NH (White Mtn Natl Forest)
Stowe, VT
Banff, AB

ETA - flights DFW to Boston are cheap then a short drive to either of the New England destinations

second edit - I think Canada will still be closed

Fly into Reno, rent a car and drive to the town of South Lake Tahoe, which oddly enough is located at the south end of Lake Tahoe. SLT is divided by the NV/CA state line, so on one side of town you have great skiing and other outdoor activities, and on the other side of town you have casinos and the dining/nightlife that is typically found. There is a lot to do and see around the circumference of Lake Tahoe, and it is otherworldly beautiful there too.

Also consider spending a few hours at the old mining town of Virginia City, which is on the route between Reno and SLT. The drive between Reno and SLT is not long at all, and is easily done.
