I have found 2 tickets for the same mileage, but one is $260 less in taxes. The cheaper ticket has a one night layover in the desired city. Are there any repercussions in doing this?

LHR? United charges fees based on the final destination.

I am sure United will dream up a bunch of ways to punish you. You could always fly to AMS and then get a cheap flight

Flying on AA. They will retro charge for the extra taxes? LHR always more expensive the DUB. Last time, I just bought a $90 flight from DUB.
