Can't speak for that route, but from my experience in central Mexico, bus service in the country operates with a regularity of a Dallas/Houston SW shuttle. Big, clean, cheap busses. I would pretty much guarantee you could go to the central bus station and get a comfortable direct

Sorry I couldn't give more specific advice, but if you can get to the bus station and someone knows a minimal amount of Spanish, you'll be fine.
