I'm headed to Glacier NP second week of September. We will be staying 3.5 days on the east side near many glacier and 2.5 days on the west side near lake McDonald.

On the east side we want to do Highline Trail and Grinnell Glacier along with one of iceberg lake or hidden lake.

On the west side we plan to do avalanche lake and then kayak on lake McDonald.

Any other recommendations while we are there?

Have you heard the news this week about the bears on the Highline?

You need to pick other trails. Bear reports have most of yours closed.

Thanks for the heads up. Our trip is still 3 weeks away, so hopefully the bears move on by then.

Mostly closed would be my bet. They have already been getting snow and it was an unusually cool summer in Montana.

Oh man you sent this on day 2 of our trip and I'm just now seeing it. Hopefully someone else can get some use out of it.

Glacier was incredible and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves hiking and mountains.

We ended up doing:

Day 1: Drove the Going to the Sun road on the way to our East side Air BnB. Ate dinner at the Many Glacier Hotel.

Day 2: Hiked Grinnel Glacier. This was my second favorite trail.

Day 3: Hiked the Highline Trail. This was our #1 trail and it was amazing. Saw a grizzly on the trail.

Day 4: Visited Waterton Lakes in Canada. Beautiful park and a great rest day patio hopping in Waterton.

Day 5: Hidden Lake Overlook and first mile of Highline again. Then down to Two Medicine for the Aster Park Overlook. We were going to kayak here, but it had closed for the season the day before. Saw a moose here. Traveled back to the west side via highway 2 which was an incredibly beautiful and fun drive.

Day 6: Avalanche Lake and Trail of Cedars. Avalanche Lake was beautiful and our #3 trail. We then rented a little 8hp boat at Lake McDonald AMD explores the lake.

The weather in September was all over the place. There was rain, wind, and sun. Lows in the 40s and highs in the 50s. As mentioned a lot of the lodges **** down on the 16th in the middle of our trip, but we were able to enjoy it.
