Legit, but only do one of the following two...

L'Auburge (older but I like it. Good vibe, good pool scene)

Nugget (newer, nice, good vibe, good pool scene)

I will let others weigh in, but that is a quick hitter. For reference, when in Vegas we will usually do Venetian or something similar to that.

Those two are definitely the newest and nicest. Sadly when I go, I usually go to Delta Downs, but that is just over the LA border from Texas and usually because I only have a few hours to go.

Tabasco is spot on. LDL and GN are the only ones worth visiting. Nugget pool has nice scenery.

Golden Nugget is way crowded and overpriced on the weekends IMO

most rooms will run $400 on weekends

The people watching at GN and LDL is fantastic, though. You get everything from real hotties to wannabe hotties to aged out hotties to guys driving their 3/4 ton wife in their 3/4 ton truck.

Both casinos are nice but push pricing on their table games pretty aggressively -- I assume both to make money and to keep the riffraff at places like Isle of Capri or wherever.

Yep, and their $160+ green fees as well but most folks get free rooms/golf so it makes them feel like they win just by going. It pays to have degenerate gambler friends.

Both are nice and you can walk between them so go w/ the cheaper room. Maybe talk to host about a free/discounted room if you have points at a shared rewards casino or if you get a big marker to start with.

Not worth going unless you have free rooms or go during the week. Rooms and table games are way overpriced. It's cheaper just to book a cheap flight to Vegas, you'll have much more fun for the same price.

if you live in Houston, this is nowhere near close to being accurate.

When you say table games are overpriced what do you mean? High minimums or bad payout odds?

Not enough $5 blackjack, penny slots or Jacks or Better Video poker.

Other than the specialty game bets, how would the payout odds of table games change?

Seems like it's hard to get on a $15 min blackjack table at Lauberge/Nugget.

$25 per hand for blackjack on the weekends at golden nugget
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

agree with this, but it doesn't take THAT much to get free rooms if you play the table games. I haven't paid for a room in Lake Charles in years and I typically gamble with a bankroll of $500-1000 per trip. Unless you just hit a cold table and don't play long at all, you'll rack up points pretty quickly.

They send me free concert tickets all the time as well and that has made for several awesome quick trips with the wife and/or friends.

I think they have to keep the prices that high so they don't have anyone at the tables who smokes through a hole in their neck.
