are there any top rated spots for shore snorkeling or close by boat snorkeling in Mexico?


also, i know there are probably a lot in the various Caribbean islands, do you have any recommendations?

I'm basically looking for a 3/4 night trip to do snorkeling and hanging out by the beach when we aren't doing that. All inclusive area would be nice and would also be nice not to have to fly 8 hours of total transit time.


We live in DFW so looking for something that direction instead of Hawaii.

According to a few clients, Anse Chastanet in St. Lucia is fantastic for snorkeling.

I've had a few go to Secrets Akumal and loved the snorkeling with the turtles.

I don't know specific resorts but Cozumel and St. John are supposed to have to some great snorkeling as well.

There are many all-inclusive places in Playa del Carmen and a nice snorkeling bay south of there in Xel Ha.

Couldn't agree more! However, with that said, sandy beaches are few and far between on Bonaire. Mostly coral pieces all over the shoreline and little sand. Absolutely beautiful place and the reef all around the island are unbelievable!

Probably referring to Irmaria.

Look up Secrets Akumal, it's a new resort about an hour south of Cancun.

The resort is on a protected bay and has a giant reef that you can walk out and snorkel.

The coolest part is since the bay is protected there are a ton of sea turtles that come nest and you can just walk out and snorkel to them.

Going to St. Lucia this summer for our honeymoon. Have only been snorkeling in Barbados once so I'm looking forward to it.

Belize has some fantastic diving.

But for shore diving and snorkeling, nothing beats Bonaire.

A lot of these islands can take some time to get to. Maybe not Hawaii time, but several hours. St. John is awesome but it takes awhile with the ferry ride. I've yet to go to bonaire but have heard good things. It's on my shortlist. Belize snorkeling is fantastic but you'll need a boat ride out there. The snorkeling at the beach is not good at all. In fact, it isn't really "beachy" to begin with. I did enjoy the outings though! Fantastic snorkeling once you got out to the reserve.

Thanks for that clairifcation. There is so much excellent shore snorkeling in Hawaii, I am just looking for something closer to DFW and cheaper than Hawaii.

Roatan is just a couple hours flight, and great snorkelling just off the shore, no need to take a boat

St. John. Can visit 2 different beaches a day. We snorkeled all week.

Which resort is that?

Grand Roatan in front and Infinity Bay in the back.

Just check out anything around West Bay Beach.

Turks & Caicos Grace Bay at Windsong Resort. We honeymooned there 10 years ago.

While Grace Bay was beautiful, I would not call it a great snorkelling spot, or even OK. It's just sand. And JoJo the dolphin.

Turks has great snorkeling, just not off the shore. Typically, the better the snorkeling is right off the beach, the worst the beaches are.

If we picked Belize where which area would you all recommend to stay to maximize resort time and snorkeling (both via boat and shore)?
