We're flying to Destin this summer, and the flights we want all have a layover in Dallas. We have options of a 1hr 5 minute layover or a 1hr 45 minute layover. Is a 1hr layover long enough? We will have a 10 month old and 3 yr old with us too, and flight will be through Southwest. Our flight leaves at 7:30 am to get into Dallas so I doubt it would be delayed but I suppose you never know.

Which airport? Love, an hour is fine. DFW, maybe not if you have to switch terminals.

Yes, it would be Love. Thanks!

As you said, you never know if there will be a delay (who would have predicted the grounding of the 737 Max jets yesterday).

Since you are flying Southwest, you are flying through Love Field. Much smaller airport, and you should be fine with the 1:05 minute layover. If not, then they'll just put you on the next plane out.

Have a fun trip.

Will you have carseats on the plane?

1 hour with carseats is rough, especially if you are delayed at all. It will also be tough if you gate checked any items

With kids, take the extra time so you don't feel rushed. The 3 year old will need to pee, the 10 month old will need to be changed, etc. Also, it'll give the 3 year old some time to run around and get some energy out as well as give you time to keep the 10 month old up so he has a better chance of falling asleep on the next flight. This is coming from a guy who has flown several times with a now 5 and 3 year old. Next flight will also have a now 4 month old.

Yep. Getting to the destination 40 minutes earlier is pretty minor if it causes more stress when traveling.

I would definitely go for the longer layover for the reasons above. Not to mention, with open seating and small kids, that's one more possibility where even technically making the flight (but far into the boarding process) could still mean a stressful clusterF when you board

Longer layover. You should have plenty of time if all goes right.
