Is anyone else seeing that? Dallas to Cabo or Cancun for over $700-800. I know it's high demand, especially for a beach but European flights are about the same price.

I've seen it in previous years, particularly to popular destinations like Orlando.

As the previous poster suggested, the way around it is to be flexible on dates - maybe fly out late Saturday or Sunday instead of Friday and come back early. Also, at least on Southwest, direct flights are often cheaper than those with stops, but at spring break, a flight with a stop might actually be cheaper.

And finally, if you are looking at Southwest, we are really too close to spring break to expect any sort of reasonable ticket prices. I have learned that, when booking flights around holidays and breaks (especially Thanksgiving and spring break), you pretty much have to book as soon as the flights are available in order to get a decent fare and your desired itinerary, especially if you are traveling to a popular vacation destination.

Yes they were high! We paid $700 for flights to Cancun sadly, but that's what we get for waiting until the last minute. Probably wouldn't have done it but I found out I had free nights at a resort, so it even out not having to pay for the resort.

Here are the prices that https://www.google.com/flights shows from DFW->Cancun for a 4 day trip.

I guess I should've been clear. 4 days isn't worth the time. 5 at a minimum, preferably 6.

I had a Disney tour in Orlando scheduled for mid-March. It was absolutely crazy pricing. I was thankfully able to delay the trip and saved $400.

Your best bet is going to be to try and bundle flights and hotels. AA Vacations I think has a coupon code for 5 data (I want to say it's Romance). Cheap Caribbean dot com (although I know nothing about them - I think it's similar to Expedia - that if the hotels are overbooked you are more likely to get walked).

United Vacations, Southwest vacations - generally do better when you bundle.

$491 if you fly Spirit with a stop. Choose your own adventure but you're right, 6 days raises the price, probably due to the Sunday return flight.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your help.

Just didn't know if anyone knew what the deal was. We've been doing these beach trips during spring break for years and never seen it this high. Wondered if fuel price hedging caused it.

Cabo is always high from DFW, same with Puerto Vallarta.

What is sooo crazy to me is I had a wedding book for PVR. Flights from Austin were about $430 for everyone. Flights from Dallas were $600 plus. All AUSTIN flights went through Dallas. Makes no sense.

Ending up having to drive to Austin from Dallas to fly out to Puerto Vallarta. $392 vs $1300 per person. For some reason the airlines are really taking advantage of the DFW area. Probably due to the population although Houston was similar pricing to Austin.

Then buy the Austin tickets and skip the Austin flight!

You cannot do this unless it is the last leg of the trip. If you skip one leg, they auto-cancel the remainder of the flights.

Same large price increase spring break week with cruises. Airlines/cruise companies/resorts most definitely pay attention to school calendars.

Depending on how we get to Austin we may carry on from PVR and get off in Dallas.

Dfw is anericans hub and the city's economy is booming. People are relocating the Dfw just for the convenience of the airport - the weekly plane commuters that is. You can be anywhere in the country in <4 hours. AA is taking advantage (see what I did there?) of business travelers.
