I am on temporary work assignment in the Netherlands and want to take wife and baby over to Paris for a long weekend. Looking for a moderately priced ($250) hotel that is safe and reasonably close to everything. I haven't been to Paris in 10 years so not familiar with hotels.

My wife and I stayed at Hotel La Placide http://www.hotelleplacide.fourwoodsinternational.com in the St. Germaine neighborhood this fall and loved it. Small, friendly staff, great location. And a nice local cafe down the road, Le Nemrod.

We were there in 2006 and stayed at Hotel Dauphine Saint-Germain and absolutely loved it!

Also, eat at Chez Fernand Christine which is just a round the corner from the hotel. Great place!

We stayed here last year:

or

The 1st hotel was pretty cool but the location wasn't the best for being around the major attractions. The 2nd one had friendly workers, a pool downstairs and was around the louvre area and close to transportation.

Stayed at Hotel de Sevres and really liked it. It's small and friendly. Great location.

Not sure if you want a "Paris" hotel, but I've stayed at and would recommend the Marriott Rive Gauche. It's near the Glacier metro stop which gives decent connectivity to the touristy stuff.
