Looking for restaurant recos, both casual and upscale, along with any touristy type activities.

I've been to NOLA plenty of times, but have always been there for a specific event and haven't had a chance to do a lot of the touristy things, besides drink in the french quarter, obviously.

Had lunch with a customer yesterday who knows his food and said that he has a new favorite restaurant in the US.

Briquette in New Orleans is that place.

I'm in NOLA right now. Are these drinks any better from these places than getting the same ones made at any other upper end bar? I do like me some sazerac.

Eh. Probably not. But some of those bars those drinks originated there and a little history behind it.

I can attest that a Pimms Cup purchased anywhere other than Napoleon House, doesn't come close. The cocktail tour is my favorite thing to do in NOLA. Took it a few years ago and our guide (Joe Gendusa) was born in the Quarter. Along with the cocktails, he offered the best history lessons pertaining to the buildings, bars and mixologists. Napoleon House was my favorite. The building has a rich history and is so typical of NOLA. It is a Spanish building, built for a French emperor (who died before he could live there), owned by a German family that features a British cocktail. The entire tour was filled with little tidbits like this. Arnaud's, Antoine's, Tujaques, Lafitte's Blacksmith Shoppe. Damn, now I need to go back.

We are looking to go there for a few days right after Christmas. Any other recommendations for things or tours to do? We for sure want to go to Commanders Palace for lunch or dinner. I thought I read somewhere on Texags that someone recommended a different place other than cafe du mond for beignets?

The locals claim that Mornig Call beignets (they are the original but have moved) is the best. They're in City Park near the art museum and sculpture garden
