Thinking about going to Vegas in early August for an anniversary getaway. Neither my wife or i have been. She's not a gambler and I'm a cheap ass banker, so looking for recommendations on food, shows, must see places.

Sounds like you need to go somewhere else then. Vegas isn't for the cheap.

This. I've been to Vegas several time and hate it. Each time I talk myself into thinking it will be better and it never is. I hate gambling and I'm somewhat frugal..... if u don't enjoy gambling or don't like paying 10 dollars for a coors light do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. The hotels, shows, etc aren't that damn impressive. It's cool for about a day then it's meh....

Vegas is now expensive. And very hot that time of year. So I, too, think you should look else where. Tahoe, San Francisco, Carmel, San Diego.

Let me clarify, I'm not going to spend hours at the table. I will gamble, but was looking for recommendations on the other items. Not afraid to spend money on a good meal, or good show. Just not going for something just because it's trendy.

I either stay at Wynn or Aria depending on the purpose of the trip. Just for fun = Aria. Nice trip with wife = Wynn.

Plenty of great steakhouses. We like SW at Wynn. I think Carbone is now closed at Aria. But it was fantastic.

Shows: Love at the Mirage is great. We like Le Reve at Wynn.

Well if that's the case, then get the Kobe at SW steakhouse.

Lots of great food, the pools are awesome, if you are cheap you can smuggle some drinks in, great people watch

Chandelier Bar
Egg ****
Secret Pizza
Momo***u Milk Bar

They are all next to each other.

The pool at Caesars is my favorite non club pool. There is also a top golf there now

Lotus of Siam is my favorite Vegas restaurant but its off the strip. If you like Thai food and don't want a meal that breaks the bank, I highly recommend. O is probably my favorite show.

If that's the case then you need to rent a cabana poolside one day. August will be brutally hot.

We love to eat Italian food in LV. Piero's is old style Vegas with really good food. Pia Zadora sometimes performs in the bar on the weekends. Have seen Rich Little get up with her. Google this place. Some of the mafiosos have been arrested here. It is the real deal. Also, Bootlegger's Bistro is another old style Italian eatery. It is way south on the strip, so not nearly as convenient to get to. Like someone suggested, get a cabana at the pool. Nice way to spend a hot day. Lots of good steak places. Joe's Stone Crabs in the Forum shops--connected to Caesar's--is really good seafood and steaks. And drinks.

There's a great steakhouse at the Cosmo. I'm sure there are other great ones at other hotels too. Very wide, excellent restaurant selection, you can't really go wrong especially if you dine at the nicer hotels like Wynn, Aria, Bellagio, and Cosmo.

Speaking of which, it's so worth it to pay more for a better hotel. The Wynn is incredible. The cheap hotels on the strip are gross.

Shows: all the Cirque shows are good, I hear Penn & Teller is great too if you are into magic shows. I also loved Blue Man Group.

But yeah... like other people said, you're going to spend a lot in Vegas, it's just how it is. Might as well accept it and just have fun

Buddy V's in the Venetian for Italian food, breakfast at Hash House A Go Go and make sure you share something because the portions are HUGE! If it's not too hot I like to go to Cabo Wabo and sit on the outside and people watch. I'm not a big show guy but Absinthe is probably the best I've seen from the long time running shows. Other than that, you can usually find me on the black jack tables at Bellagio or Planet Hollywood

My wife and I are not big gamblers either, so we went to Vegas for nearly the same reasons you are saying you want to go. here are some places we hit up while we were there.

Hash House A Go Go- get the chicken and waffles
Olive- in the Bellagio was great.
Joes stone crab- it's was very solid, Reba eats there regularly
Mesa Grill- we had lunch and it was fantastic
Holsteins- in Cosmo- for an alcoholic milkshake.
Bacchanal- buffet in Caesars. good
BurGR- burger joint in PH

Shows-
Absinthe at Caesars was funny, but don't go if you get offended easily

We've enjoyed staying at the Aria. There's a cool little French bistro for breakfast that's great, and the Spanish restaurant there (Julian Serrano) is also quite good.

Sushisamba in the Venetian (I think) is a good japanese/brazilian fusion place. Joe's in Ceasar's in good for steak and seafood.

But really, there are so many high-end restaurants in Vegas that you won't have trouble finding a great meal.

Take your wife and stay at the Cosmo and get the rooms that face the belagio fountain

Shows - Michael Jackson Circus show was amazing
If you can't handle the stress, log off until August. If you can handle the stress, be supportive and donate to United. No more buildings and concrete. Gotta channel funds to the collective for now.

I prefer the rooms at Palazzo over the Wynn. SW steakhouse in the Wynn is great, so is Wolfgang Puck's Cut, which is in the corridor between the Palazzo and Venetian.

Absinthe is the best show going right now, but as someone mentioned, it's not for the easily offended. If you can handle the really offensive humor, the cirque style acts from so close up are amazing. I've seen it three times....the acts rotate, so the show is always slightly different.

My wife and I are going in late August. Already bought tix to La Reve and Criss Angel. We're staying at the Bellagio, and plan one of our meals to be beef Wellington at Gordon Ramsey Steak. We love Hell's Kitchen and have always wanted to try that.

Any other recommendations for good eats or unique dining options?

Thanks!

My advice is to get absolutely hammered before seeing Criss Angel. Hopefully, you'll pass out within avout 5 minutes of the show starting. That's the worst show I've seen in LV.

He half-assed the whole show and berated the audience all night. I'd guess 15% of the audience left early. Admittedly, this was '08 or so.

Well that's not encouraging. Hopefully he's changed since then.

definitely agree on Eat. Went there for the first time last trip after my old standby of DuPar's at the Golden Gate closed. Was outstanding!

Gambling at PH about the time Britney show lets out is the place to be... target rich environment...

As far as the other stuff, get a meal at SW steak house or Prime (at Bellagio). I've heard nothing but great things about Absinthe (taking the wife to see that in a few weeks). Ka was a great show too and so is O.

Caesars pool if you want to lounge. Marquee day club at the pool if you want to party.

I really wish I had a chance to visit Vegas soon... I like casinos a lot but they are not legal in my area so I play some free online games like free Fortune Teller online slot, for example. But if you are not going to gamble, I don't think that there is a reason in going to Vegas, honestly

This for sure.

Me & my lady are heading out there tomorrow night. I get comped rooms at the Cosmo and the wing facing the Bellagio is great for watching the fountain show.

My favorite Vegas activity is drinking at the pool. So many of the hotel pools are nice, but my personal favorite is the lazy river at MGM. Go a bit early, find a couple of lounge chairs, claim your spot, then drink, float and people watch. A fun low-key night can be had at the Carnaval Court at Harrah's. It is a 360 degree bar where they do flair bartending and almost always have live music. It is a good alternative to the stuffy clubs. You can dress casually and enjoy listening to music and watching the bartenders do their thing.

Those rooms are also great for drone flights over the strip. Pretty much our go-to option until someone else comes up with something better.

Wife and I are also laid back and cheap but like to people watch and generally have a good time. A trip to Vegas starts with an uber to an off strip grocery store to stock up on liquor, beer, and wine. Then we grab a few roadies and just walk the strip and take in life's parade.

Yep! Grabbing a tallboy at the Walgreens and watching the sh**show on the strip is yet another favorite activity of mine!

Just curious, but is the liquor off the strip that much cheaper? I usually just walk and grab some at CVS or Walgreens on the strip, but for all I know I am the donkey paying double prices for it. I don't recall it being overly expensive on the strip though.
