What are some of the best places to hike for great scenery and terrain near Denver? Preferably no more than 2 hours of a drive from downtown, and difficult hikes are okay.

How fit are you and how long of a hike are you looking for?

the incline in Manitou is a good work out. not very long but there's other stuff nearby as well.

Front Range is only an hour west. Some of the "easier" 14ers are located there.

We're both very active runners. Definitely interested in something over 5-7 miles

The Front Range is Denver, Fort Collins, etc.

Are you referring to the Continental Divide? Maybe the Georgetown Area? Near Georgetown is where the turnoffs for several relatively easy 14ers are.

Just googled Front Range to see what you may have been refering to and low and behold that is a mountain range name.

FYI
To people who live in Colorado, the front range is the "Urban Corridor" between Fort Collins and Colorado Springs. Just trying to help prevent confusion if talking to people in Coloado when you get there.
