We'll hit I-25 from the south in Raton next week around noon, and wanted to take the "scenic route" off of I-25 west to Frisco, CO.

Looks like the turn offs are in either Pueblo or Colorado Springs.

Anyone have any particular recommendations? Things or towns to stop at on the way?

Royal Gorge. Canon City

Or better but more time would be drive to top of Pikes Peak and check out garden of the gods, Colorado Springs.

If you want a real "scenic route" take Phantom Canyon Road from Canon City to the old mining town of Cripple Creek. Small dirt mountain road with old tunnels and what not. From Cripple Creek you can continue northwest to Frisco.

The back way we used to always take to avoid the I-70 traffic on the weekends during ski season from the springs to Breck/Copper etc was hwy 24 through woodland park & divide to hwy 9 up to breck/frisco. It was pretty scenic when you dropped down into the meadow on hwy 9

Up through crested butte, over paradise divide, down to crystal and on to marble. Home free after that "scenic" ride!

+1 unless you're prepared to do some off road action. I once drove my Jeep Grand Cherokee from Monument to Woodland Park through the mountains above the USAFA. That was fun.
