On the other side of the Thames, past the Embankment, is Gordon's Wine Bar. Cross the Golden Jubilee bridge, turn right through Charing Cross station, then left on Villiers. It's on your right about 100 yards or so.
Gordons dates back to the late 19th century. There is a long row of tables (standing and sitting) outside as well as some seating in the grotto itself. In the evenings it is only small plates, but with a tremendous selection of wine and an incredible atmosphere. Samuel Pepys owned the house in the 17th century and Kipling lived there as well.
If you love wine like we do, it's simply a fantastic place to nosh and enjoy London. It's been really crowded every time we have been there, so you may have to share a table. But, if you are adventurous as stated, you just might make some friends in London.
