We are looking for a recommendation on a town for a weekend this summer in CO.

We'll be over in the Idledale/Morrison area for the week after, but looking for somewhere to use as a home base for hanging out/walking/cycling/etc for 3 days.

Right now I have:

Frisco
Breck
Telluride
Aspen

No Vail as we stayed there last year.

Any particular recommendations?

Ages?
How many people?

With kids I would suggest Durango ride the train take the alpine slide for a spin and hit up some hikes. Without kids we need to know you preferences.
Are you driving or flying ?

Out of that list I wouldn't do Frisco, just stay in Breck if you go that direction.

Every area has many of the same activities but a different vibe. Aspen is very different than Breck. I haven't been to Telluride in the summer yet (we are going for the 4th) so I can't say about that area but it's decently close to Durango and other areas.

One you may want to add to the list is Steamboat. We went there last summer with our dog and had a good time. I've been to all on your list in the summer (except Telluride) with our dog and they are all dog friendly.

There's really no bad choice.

Get as far away from Denver as you can on summer weekends. I think they evacuate Denver every weekend!

We were in Telluride last July for Ridefest.....absolutely stunning. We' go back in a heartbeat.

We're not mtn bikers but it seemed like we were the only ones who weren't. Same goes for the dog.

I love Lake City. My husband's uncle is a full time resident there. So pretty!

Last summer I went to three of those; Breck, Frisco, and Telluride. I would choose Telluride and it's not even close... Breck and Frisco are so close you really don't have to choose between the two. Just my 2 cents based off my personal experience, and if you'd like more info I'd be willing to give it in another response.

Telluride deserves more than a weekend- 4 days minimum.

OP, how much driving are you up for between the weekend and your week in the Morrison area?

I think Telluride is out based on the additional distance, but I do want to return for a longer trip there.

We have Frisco booked currently due to the proximity to everything (Vail, Breck, Keystone, Silverthorne, Lake Dillon).
