3 day trip in may with the wife, staying in P&L district.

Have been told that Q39 and Oklahoma Joe's are the BBQ places to hit up.

Does anyone have dining, touristy or entertainment recs?

I doubt I will ever be back to KC so appreciate any ideas.

What do you like to do?

The WW1 museum (liberty memorial) is great along with the art museum on the plaza. Royals game? There are a few cool bars on 18th, toms town distillery, up/down is a cool Barcade. Pending on when your there maybe something is going on at the sprint center, Kauffman center, or pnl?

I personally like jack stack the most bbq wise. Granauer and lydias are good food options down the street car line once your sick of BBQ. Los tules and pizza Bella are solid too (and cheaper).

Suggestion on ok joes go at a random hour or call in your order so you don't have to wait forever.

WWI museum. It is phenomenal even if you aren't into history. If you do like history I'd also recommend the Truman Presidential Library in Independence (a KC suburb).

Royals game.

I never was able to go on the Boulevard Brewery tour but I heard it is pretty cool.

Thanks for your insight.

We get into town TH morning and fly out late Sat afternoon. Our only commitment is Friday night otherwise we are free. We are staying at the Ambassador.

We are pretty easy going on what we like to do. Really whatever the city has to offer that is hopefully unique to the area.

Plan on hitting up a BBQ lunch daily. As the result of the rec above, we will add Jack Stack beef rib to our plans along with Q39 and Joe's.

The WW! Museum looks like a certain visit. Boulevard Brewery looks pretty cool as well. We will not have a car but there seems to be many options close to the P&L District.

be sure to give a report when you get back. I'm interested as I need to make the trek down from Omaha one weekend. Also, any stuff for young kids?

Oklahoma joe's was decent (on the level of Rudy's) but the other ones I've been to in KC weren't any better. I don't get the hype of their barbecue.

Had to look up the P&L district. As I recall, some of the battle of Westport occured in that area. And we tried the BRGR Kitchen, it's very good.

The Boulevard Brewing tour is great. Make sure you have time to hang out in their taproom - great space with lots of good stuff on tap.

Woodyard BBQ is off the beaten path but it's really good - http://woodyardbbq.com/.

The Peanut on Main Street is a fun dive bar - http://www.peanutkc.com/main-st.html.

I'd also recommend the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art - http://www.nelson-atkins.org/

We were there last summer.

Jack Stack is pretty good. Joe's BBQ in the gas station is great, I highly recommend it. I can't speak to OK Joe's or the other you mentioned.

The WWI museum is fantastic. Truly fantastic. My wife and kids went to the college basketball HOF museum and had a blast. There's also a federal reserve bank and museum that I wish I could have gone through.

Royals game is a must. Best fans in baseball imo.

I was there in march for a few days and one day for breakfast we ended up at a cool diner named Winsteads. Pretty good breakfast.

Go to the Cigar Box on Saturday and hang out for Kareoke hosted by Al Lotta. It's the coolest bar in KC and harkens back to the old Mob days of the city

Did we leave off green lady lounge? Cigar box triggered that. If you like jazz at all it's a must.

Q39 was the best BBQ I have ever had. Have not been to Franklins or Killens but have hit the other well know Houston/Centex joints.

Jack Stacks was good but a step below Q39. Did not make it to Joe's unfortunately.

Gram and Dunn at the Plaza was a good time formHH/dinner. Grinders for cheesesteak and pizza wasa good change of pace.

Green lady was a lot of fun. Moscow Mules appear to be the unofficial drink of KC and Green lady had the best one I had. Quality local jazz, no cover, good drinks made this a great time.

WWI mueseum was awesome. You could easily lose yourself for half a day there.

Stayed at the Ambassador in the P&L district, an easy walk to the Sprint Center. Good area of town, many places with an easy walk.

I lived in KC for 11 years but moved the year before Q39 opened. All my KC friends tell me that its better than Joes.

Damn wish y'all would have posted that stuff earlier yesterday. Got jack stack burnt ends and beef rib for lunch yesterday and was thoroughly unimpressed. The only thing that was worth a damn was the cheesy potatoes. Oh well I'll have to try this q39 next time I'm down here.

I live in KC currently. Arthur Bryant's original and the 18th and Vine area is worth a look too for an extended trip (although its behind much of the items listed above).

Joe's is probably my favorite BBQ. Q39 is really good too (my wife's favorite), but is too new for me to put it #1 just yet. They are about to open a second destination near Overland Park.

My BBQ tip for KC after growing up in TX: Don't expect too much from the brisket anywhere or you will be disappointed. But everything else, especially the ribs are excellent.

Can't say enough good things about the WW1 Museum. Union Station is worth a visit as well. Lots of not too well known history in KC to explore (frontier, Lewis and Clark, Civil War, Cattle Drives, World Wars, etc).

It's a neat little city. I have enjoyed my time here.
