San Antonio is a GREAT city.
You're staying on the Riverwalk downtown:
- The Alamo is the "must see" that's on most people's minds, but be aware that there are 4 other missions in San Antonio on the Mission Trail.
- People also think of the Riverwalk as just existing downtown, but it stretches pretty far beyond that area, both North and South. Either direction provides a nice option for a run or stroll outside the tourist epicenter
- You've got to make your way to the San Fernando Cathedral to see the Saga light show. It's very impressive. It runs on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays At 9PM, 9:30PM, And 10PM.
- The best meal you're going to find on the riverwalk is Esquire Tavern. Aside from that, the good eats are off the river.
- Also downtown is The Last Word, which is a cool cocktail place.
Walk Market Square if you choose. Mi Tierra is the iconic spot over there.
Now, outside the typical tourist footprint:
The Pearl District has become a "cool spot."
- The Granary is an interesting spot for "fancy bbq," they also brew on-site.
- Southerleigh is the other top notch spot for nice dining in the Pearl (and also brews on-site).
The Southside's King William District is becoming the go to cool spot.
- Cascabel is a great lunch option.
- B&D Ice House is a divey spot with some really good BBQ.
- Liberty Bar is a great choice for whatever meal you can fit in. They also do brunch on the weekends - it's a huge place.
- Stella Public House has a good bar scene and a good brunch menu.
- Bar 1919 is the coolest cocktail bar in town
Elsewhere around town:
- King's Hwy Brew & Q is a cool fusion of Mexican & Barbecue. It (along with B&D) has the best bbq I've had in town. (I've yet to try 2M Smokehouse or B Daddy's)
- McNay Art Museum is the best museum in the city - it sits in a highe Mediterranean style mansion.
- Brackenridge Park is the best park in the city - the Japanese Tea Gardens are worth a visit
- Freetail Brewery is the beer bell cow of San Antonio.
- Ranger Creek is a "brewstillery" on the northeast side of town.
- The Spurs are pretty good. You might want to catch them in action.
