By any chance has anybody done this? I'm trying to plan a 10 day road trip starting and ending in Reykjavik in late September.

Yes, one of the coolest I've ever done. Might feel a little rushed with ten days, though
If you attempt to find the Slheimasandur US Navy DC 3 crash site, landowners have fenced off some the area and you will need to walk about 4km to see the remains of the aircraft.

Did the ring road in about the same time frame a couple of years ago. I highly recommend it!

but yea, definitely go to iceland,, quite gorgeous
