Astros have 10 remaining (7 home, 3 away) games vs Seattle.

They are currently 1-2 vs Seattle.

They need to go 6-4 in those remaining 10 to win the head to head.

Selling out to win 3 of the 4 home games this weekend would put the record at 4-3 and then you just need to split the remaining 6 to win the head to head.

I see both clubs are now starting TBD in every game this weekend, til TBDs' arms fall off.

Astros have a lot of starting pitchers on the shelf.

As do the Los Angeles Deferreds, difference is the latter staff is getting worked as of late

This season we seem to have an offense that actually produces better at home

Maybe once Yordan comes back off the IL (if he does), Jose can take a turn?

You have beat the drum about roster turnover and a different class of talent- yet the Astros remain where they have been. They are consistently one of if not the most aggressive teams, top to bottom, at the plate. It's consistent with the Astros organization, regardless of the roster construction. I don't know if it is purposefully taught or passively allowed, but it is the Astros MO. The players have changed, but the mentality is the same.

It might be a brilliant decision when you have a prime Altuve along with Springer, Correa, and Gurriel. Those players are not in this lineup, but the swing-from-the-ondeck-circle mindset remains. I get that you may disagree, and I get that some pitchers throw strikes so you have to swing, but I believe this generally goes beyond some "this is who I am" players.

I typed all that and you deleted your comments on me?!! You know how long it takes me to type on my phone????? lol

Haha, yeah, I'm sorry. Wish it would update you when that happens. Thanks for the effort!

Just thought we had hashed it enough!

I just think guys can only change so much.

I refuse to believe this is the end for Altuve. He's going to figure it out even if it means he has to redefine his swing/approach.

It's not the end. He's in a slump. He was our best hitter average wise for the first 20ish games. I think his nagging injuries are hampering him. He likely feels like he has to play through it with Yordan out and Walker struggling.

It's definitely not the end. It's year 1 of the new 5 year deal. It may be a horror movie, but we're just sitting down at the start of the flick.

There is great irony in the fact that after all these years with a mostly RH bullpen, we finally brought in multiple lefties to great success...only to gut our own lineup of all LH hitters to our own detriment.

Yall know who else is killing it? Nolan Arenado. However, I don't think it's legit. Just some early season luck.
Luck ran out. Offensively, all he's good for is not striking out and pulling the ball in the air. The pop is gone. He can't find a barrel.

I'm old enough to remember last year when the bullpen started out struggling (mostly Pressley but also Hader) that many were calling for the pitching coaches to be fired. Saying Miller was a step down from Strom.

Astros Bingo Update: 5-19-25

86-win pace! I don't believe what I just saw!

Jake hitting .301 after his dong last night, .71 points above his square

Altuve dropping like a stone, down to .236. How bad has it gotten? Christian Walker has caught him in runs scored and is about to pass him in OPS.

Hader up to 41 save pace, Abreu to 41 hold pace.

Braves getting what they paid for, Montero's ERA up to 5.25.

The honeymoon is over in Chicago. The Cubs blew another save last night against Miami and their lead is down to 1 game over the out-of-nowhere Cardinals. Kyle Tucker is hitting .219 in May and just .258 overall. Tucker is at .163 in the last 2 weeks. Pressley has been reduced to the 7th-inning guy. The loss of Kyle Tucker is not seeming like such a loss.

Suddenly the A's have lost 6 in a row and are only half a game ahead of the Angles, who have won 4 in a row.

White Sox back on pace for 115 losses. Rockies say, hold our beer, on pace for 134 losses.

Ohtani hit #17 last night. He's on pace for 57. Gotta make a deep playoff home or risk changing diapers all autumn.

I didn't feel very confident in my 35 saves for Hader square after Game 1
Now that is looking like one of the few bright spots in my predictions

The pen construction is one of the places Dana deserves a lot of credit. I worry Joe is having to overuse it because of all the close games.

Trading ANY pitching would be insane. Aside from it being the main part keeping us afloat right now, someone is always going on the IL. Hell, it's not June and we are already down 2 starters.

And I wouldn't count on getting Javier or LuAce back this season, or at least back and contributing much of value.

Like it or not, Dana has very little to work with that he can use to fix this RHH lineup that he can reasonably afford to give up.
This will be the rub in July. Can you win a WS with this team? I get Framber helps us the rest of this season but if the team is fatally flawed elsewhere does that matter? We will either need to buy to fix the RHH issue or sell. I don't see sit around and see what happens as an option.
I would love to see a deep run again in the playoffs, but this is not the team to do it. If you are not going to be able to resign him, might as well let him go if you can get a good return.

How do you know this isn't the team to do it?

The Astros just came through one of the hardest schedules to start the league and are 2 games over .500, 2.5 out of first in the division with whatever Yordan is going through, a really slow start from Yanier, and Walker not showing up yet. Altuve struggling too. On top of that - Spencer getting hurt and LMJ knocking off rust.

Two or three of those things trend upward and who knows.

Lots of ball left to play, brother.
We just lost 4 out of 6 to the Brewers and the White Sox. Strength of schedule doesn't really mean much when we have shown a remarkable ability to play down to the quality of our opposition.

And won series against the Mets, Padres, Blue Jays, Royals, and should have beat the Mariners.

Seems they can play up to the competition too.

It's ok to be A LITTLE positive, brother.
I have long duration BAS for Aggie and Houston sports. As soon as I start to believe, they tank. Better to stay mostly negative and be occasionally pleasantly surprised. (said mostly facetiously, but there is a bit of truth to it)

I know the bullpen won't keep up the pace of pretty much being unhittable all season but I'm hoping we stay in that top 5 range all season.

If Abreu and Hader can end the season with sub 3 ERAs we will be golden

He is on 15 day IL right now. 15 Day IL counts against the 40 man, 60 day does not.

I think they see him as the primary long relief to back up LMJ until he can go longer. Don't want to burn him for 5 days at a time as a starter if they can avoid it.
Ag_07

Gusto pitched out of the pen the other night instead of making his start today.

It's not that they don't trust him.
