I'm sure Mr Boras has a different opinion.
The question is, will some other GM agree with him?

Was able to cross check this and confirm with another source last night and it's only a matter of time before this gets out.
The Astros offer to Bregman is 6 years and $156M.
It's going to be really interesting.
yes, I would imagine the Astros' utility / HVAC cost per season is much, much greater than teams with open air stadiumsMathguy64 said:
I don't think you can use that data to infer Crane can afford a ton more.
ML Payroll =/= total costs
What if we traded for Bellinger (negative trade value) and Parades? This would solve 3B long-term and 1B & CF short-term. Plus it would not eat up money that could interfere with a long-term deal for Tucker.Farmer1906 said:Correct. Jon would go bye-bye in my scenario. You can't justify a player like Beli to be a part-time 1B. His ability to play CF & 1B while being a plus hitter makes him valuable.Mathguy64 said:Farmer1906 said:
I would still take him but he'd have to be cheap in prospects and the Cubs would need to take on some money. He'd be awesome to platoon in CF and 1B.
Platooning him at 1B makes Jon dead weight.
I still think the easy (AKA cheap) solution there is to find a RHH 1B and platoon that person with Jon as LHH.
We have the RHH platoon in Dezenzo, Whitecomb, and or Caratini for 1B. I don't think we can justify a roster spot for a RHH platoon 1B that can't do much else.
Thats as high as I would be willing to go if I'm Crane. There's significant risk Bregman becomes a slappy 3B two or three years into that deal. He's already trending that way.texasaggie2015 said:

Kyle Finnegan is sort of a given, but he's going to be quite a bit more expensive than the above mentioned guys.

Mostly looking at moves in the margins for this kind of thing.
The #Nationals announced they non-tendered their All-Star closer Kyle Finnegan, a graduate of Kingwood HS.

The Astros tendered contracts to all eight of their arbitration-eligible players: Framber Valdez, Kyle Tucker, Bryan Abreu, Mauricio Dubón, Jake Meyers, Chas McCormick, Luis Garcia and Jeremy Peña.

Jake Meyers survived the non-tender deadline, but judging from some of Dana Brown's comments earlier this month, he still may be on borrowed time - https://t.co/qKP0WhwxHx

India, 27, had the 5th-best BB% in baseball last year. A former Rookie of the Year and first round pick.

The Mariners are non-tendering Josh Rojas, Sam Haggerty, Austin Voth and JT Chargois, club announces.

Moves this week have freed up about $8M in the payroll budget, roughly doubling what the Mariners are projected to have available this offseason.

Am I wrong in thinking that the whole "no state income tax" aspect of any player's offer in Texas is missing 1/2 the story?
Aren't they effectively paid on a per game and per location basis, and have to report income to each state they play in since that's where "they worked"?

Am I reading this right? They only have $16m to spend total this off-season?

This is the first full season they'll own 100% of the RSN. There will be significant shortfall from real world cable and satellite dollars vs the amount in rights they were receiving.
