Are the Rangers truly potential suiters for Scherzer? Obviously, would love to have the guy, but man we would need to give up a lot.

I don't think so. I believe Chris Young and staff understand that we are at the beginning of a window of success, and that keeping some players/prospects is key to sustaining that window. Scherzer only fits the win now window, and I think Young knows that.

If you could get a younger guy who is interested in being here long term, then I think the front office would be interested, but a 38 year old Scherzer doesn't fit what we are trying to do or where we are at in the rebuild process. Plus, Owen White looks like he could be a real factor at the end of this season and definitely next. He went 5 scoreless again last night.

It's hard to say. At 6.5 GB for the WC, I'm not convinced the NYMets are going to be sellers.

The 1st Q is whether or not the Mets are really willing to trade him, and if so... is he willing to waive his no-trade for that specific team. In this case, the Rangers.

The Mets have indicated they are willing to eat money, so the thought of trading to take salary doesn't necessarily apply, even though the Mets are WELL into Luxury Tax spending. General consensus is that he'll activate his 2024 option that is like $43M.

The Rangers, last I heard are $9M from reaching the Tax limit.

If the Mets want Ohtani... they'll keep Scherzer.

From a pure baseball standpoint I do think they would be better off in a market that is "theirs". I think there are at least 3-5 cities that would give them a more loyal, die-hard following than they have now. Issue is that this is a business and they would miss out on a crap ton of money. Being an afterthought in a huge market will (almost) always be better than being the big deal in a small market.

Would be a colossally horrible business decision to leave the LA area even though I do think it would make for more fun for the other franchises in the league if they had their own city/culture.

Scherzer would give you a ToTR guy for the rest of 2023 and all of 2024. I think he could fit into what we're doing.

If he does come up for trade (I have my doubts) it all comes down to cost, for me. Mets are going to want MLB-ready talent.

Top5 are off the table, for me. I agree Owen White is promising and too close.

If you can get Scherzer, it makes Heaney and Perez (if healthy) movable.

Would Duran be an option to include?

Would any of Duran, Heaney, Foscue get you there? Could you trade Perez to a team and use the prospects from Perez to be included?

The goal is to have a 5+ year window. As much as I hate to say it, the Astros 7+ year window is impressive and incredibly frustrating. Every offseason, I hope they take a big step back but it just doesn't happen.

Yeah I hope we were never serious about getting Max. I don't want us to have the all in mindset right now as the future looks bright for 5+ years.
