I dig the Twin Cities uniform but the Marlins "M" hats are dumb

The M hats are getting DESTROYED on Twitter. I think everything else looks fine (albeit very run of the mill minimalistic)… never understood why teams don't use more of a test a feel approach and get fan feedback vs using a design firm that thinks they know what people want and get raked over the calls when it flops.

I like the white and red Twins jersey. Looks clean.

I still think our orange jerseys are some of the best in MLB.

The home uniform and the Twin Cities top are awesome, the rest are meh. The M caps are awful.

I live up here I'll have to report back on friends feedback.

Yeah, it's pretty badass. $80.
14x20 "fine art print" is $80. They also have an 11x17 poster that's only $30 which I think I'm going to have to get.

Dodgers feel on the different colored numbers under the script.

The M is absolutely brutal.

Does that count as an apology? If Gammons meant for it to be, he better try again.

National writers apologize?

Nah they'll just pretend they weren't the ones that started the storm. And they'll never acknowledge that they are the ones who led to guys like Altuve getting unfair treatment

The Twin Cities uni should be the primary. Very nice. That said, the road gear: pinstripes AND piping? Wrong.

This reminds me of my biggest uniform pet peeve: the incessant need to develop a unique number font. Nothing wrong with block numbers. The Astros' numbers work because they're a subtle tweak of block numbers.

This number font deal is especially cruddy when a university adopts a weak one for all of its sports. Like ours.

I wonder how they handle their INF.

Stanton is the DH so that's occupied when he's healthy. That leaves Rizzo at first and then a few well-paid guys in Donaldson & DJ to go along with Gleybar, IKF, & a couple of SS prospects. I don't get why they don't go all in on their young guys and let them grow.

Rumor brought over from another site so take from it as you like:

JV asked Crane for 2yr $80M and he will sign. Crane and he are working on the specifics of the 2nd year but nothing is agreed or imminent.

I guess the obvious question IF THIS IS TRUE does spending $80M on JV the next two years hamstring us from addressing other positions. I guess the more accurate question is HOW much does this hamper efforts in acquiring other talent.

I'm really torn if this happens because you can never have too much pitching but unless Crane wants to pay the luxury tax it doesn't sound like we will make many other moves. Who knows, maybe that's a good thing without a GM in place.

As much as JV frustrated us in the playoffs he still had a quality start in game 1 against the Yanks and obviously battled to a win in game 5 in the World Series BUT he almost cost us game 1 against Seattle and definitely cost us in game 1 of the World Series. I wouldn't call that a $40 million dollar pitcher but he did win the Cy Young and was dominant as hell during the regular season.

And of course there's always rally Kate to consider.

I think their best uni was and still is the white with large Twins script. They're replacing script Minnesota with a new (better?) font. They did ditch the TC interlocking one. I kind of liked those. Reminds me of the 90s when the Astros just had the star on the one side.

100% agree the M hat is the worst.

$40m a year is too much. Eats into the budget we need for other areas of need and guys we need to extend to give us a 7th starter.

It only hamstrings us if Crane decides it does. Nothing is stopping him from having a 400 M payroll.

In practice, I think he's usually 20-30 M below the tax line. 40 M for JV would move than cover that. Crane would have to go up to and possibly past the line to go get someone like Abreu or Bell.

JV already cost $66 million in the past with no pitches to show for it. His return was quite incredible....but doing tat would be pressing your luck. Crane is a top baseball guy so I am sure he will do what's best for the club. It is time to let JV go......maybe lock up some of those young pitchers before it gets too ugly....and then the Tucker issue will have to be addressed sometime. It would be smarter to spend the money on those things or on an OF or 1B....especially if Brantley does not return.

Maybe go steal Reynolds from the Pirates for a Chik-Fil-A gift card ....he is a right-handed bat and can play all OF positions.

I don't like it, but it is not my money. I think it is way to much for him when you have other players that are providing much more on a daily basis. Lock Tuck up long term and address the DH & 1st base. We have pitching depth. Nothing against JV, but the money would be better spent at other positions.

Did anyone find out the catch probability on Chas's play in game 5? I did some digging the next day, but couldn't find that info. Looks like the catch probability / star rating is not public info on baseball savant.....

I agree, though I'd say it's all a part of what else they do. Does that deal open up trading Urquidy or Garcia for a bat? Which bat could you get? Christian Walker or Pasquantino from the Royals come to mind.

Its media only.

I think Blum or someone talked about it on a pod. It wasn't all that high, but those metrics don't factor in the wall. All they do really is direction, distance, and time.

I don't think the Royals are interested in moving a top-100 prospect who excelled in limited time in the bigs with 6 years of control.

Walker makes the most sense. No idea what his value would be, but Urquidy for Walker sounds fair to me. Strom might want one of his guys back.

I think paying that would still leave in the neighborhood of $20 million to spend this year to take you right up to the first luxury tax limit. Which isn't a whole lot if you are using that on free agents.

I think my answer is no on 2 years $80 million to JV.

Most of the bottom 3 rows in the image your shared look like Twins unis, although I'm not sure why they added the gold/whatever accent color to some of them. I don't recognize some of them. The new 'Twin Cities' jersey is weird without any red in it, but the hat is cool along with the grey pinstriped jersey. The 'M' hat is awful.

It could be worse; they could look like these (not official) with nearly the same color scheme:
https://capitalsportsmn.com/2021/05/13/introducing-the-new-nashville-stars-team/

Which reminds of the obligatory request to bring these back before the Nashville franchise comes to fruition:

I'd sign him for 2/80 IF the second year wasn't guaranteed and was contingent on Year 1 performance

Fair enough. Some of those advanced metrics over/under value certain plays, and I could understand Chas's catch being undervalued. If it doesn't account for the required jump and smacking into the wall, I can see how metrics would say it was an average play. And, of course, metrics can't really factor in the "pivotal-ness" of the catch. Metrics be damned, that was a 5 star catch in my book.

Whether it's salary or vesting options, it can't be based on performance - it can be based on appearances or innings pitched.

You can still accomplish what you're trying to do here by giving him a reasonable threshold. 25 starts or 150 IP or something like that. Where it could get awkward is if he's healthy but not pitching well and he is nearing the threshold towards the end of the season and you don't want to be on the hook for that 2nd year.

Two other rumor notes apparently Crane wants Jose Abreu badly but how do you sign him and still play JV 40/yr?

Staying on Abreu (this time Bryan) the Astros are intrigued by converting him into a starter, which is why they overpaid to keep Montero.

If all the rumors I heard are true it sounds like Crane might tell JV 40 is too much and if he's willing to come down we sign him and hopefully have enough to acquire Abreu.

If JV says money is the most important thing (hmmm, I thought the time away made him fall in love with the game again??) we let him walk, sign Abreu and convert the other Abreu to a starter (or at least experiment with him in that role).

See page 1 for all salaries. Add in Montero, $40mm for JV, $25mm for Abreau, they are still below the tax number. Not saying it will happen, but there is room if they snag to

Fangraphs has us at 179 with Montero. If JV gets 40 then we're at 219. That would leave 14 before we hit the tax.
