I didn't see a thread on this and wanted to pay tribute to an awesome pitcher that could've/should've been a Hall of Famer if his career hadn't been cut short. He died earlier this week. RIP JR

We remember J.R. Richard - @Astros 1971-80. Was 107-71 with 3.15 ERA and 1,493 strikeouts, including 313 in 1979 (#Astros single-season record until Gerrit Cole surpassed it in 2019). Won career-best 20 games in 1976. His career was cut short by a stroke in 1980. #RestInPeace pic.twitter.com/5UgwowmN13

I hated to see this. He was my first "sports hero." I was in Little League and just in awe of how hard he could throw. It's such a shame that he didn't get better treatment all those years ago.

One of my favorite Astros when I was a kid. Going to the Dome to see him pitch was quite a treat for a small town Central Texas kid. I was surprised at his lifetime W-L record bc I sure don't remember him losing very often. Dude was nasty. Yeah he got dealt a pretty sh*tty hand in life. RIP big man
