Papi came in top-5 five years in a row. Of course he was averaging .300, 40 doubles, 40 HR, 130 RBIs, but Yordan could do that.

Great game today. Glad to see Tucker break out.

I agree. He's capable.

When Yordan first got called up, we had heard about the raw power... but I'd be lying if I said I thought he would be a .300+ hitter consistently

In my mind I saw a Joey Gallo type (but better) with about a .240 AVG and 30-40 HR.

It's so encouraging to see days like today from him where he just drives the ball opposite field gap, or pokes one into center for a single

Tucker had an excellent day today.

Dusty will probably rest him tomorrow.

Angels starter for Monday (Cobb) just went on the IL.

some guy named Suarez called up from AAA.

he's a lefty, so yes, day off for Tucker and Yordan tomorrow

I don't get the knock against a guy for MVP bc he's a DH. None of the other players would get a look if they didn't hit.

I think he's capable as well and I'm hopeful you're right, but top five in MVP is a tough nut to crack for DH.

If he played the field, he's a legit candidate for MVP.

Take care of business next divisional series (Angels, Rangers, A's) we will be where we thought we would be going into June. And hard to look at Red Sox without recognizing their current manager was 10x more responsible for any malfeasance than AJ, Luhnow, or other Astro players. Crane never should have caved.

Record wise, there is an incredible amount of parity right now. No one has separated themselves a month and half into the season. Thinking the cream will start to rise here soon.

Amazing that we were swept by the Tigers

I think a big part of that was their manager knows more about how to attack our personnel than just about anyone in the world

I think the Astros are 13-7 vs. the AL West.

so playing the West teams again...is where the team wants to be

the Astros are 16-10 when Yordan starts.

2-6 when he doesn't.

I would start Yordan every game.

seems like a smart thing to do

Keep the best hitter in the lineup? Hmmm, let me think about this... nope, my chart from 1975 says I gotta go with lefty-righty matchups.

The super smart thing to do would have been to keep the big man away from anyone and anything covid related. I still don't understand why the team didn't do a better job with that during ST and the first couple of weeks of the season.

But our manager knows more about how to attack Cream of Wheat than just about anyone in the world. Those skills should have canceled themselves out.

The offense seems to be exactly what we need it to be.

#3 AVG
#5 OBP
#4 SLG
#3 OPS
#2 wRC+

Now we just need the pitching to catch up.

#18 ERA
#11 WHIP
#18 FIP
#21 xFIP
#13 BB%
#14 K%

The COVID BS is no fault of the team.

Think about it...Other teams are getting to postpone/reschedule when multiple players are out, some players come back in 3 days but ours come back in 7-10, and players fall victim to contract tracing when they've already had either already had COVID or the vaccine.

That was all on MLB. They fkd us

Yep - run differential should tell you who will be at the top when it all plays out.

I completely agree that MLB had been arbitrary at best with how they have handled discipline. However IMHO the team should have done a better job of making sure everyone understood they are professionals and to minimize every possible exposure and to get everyone to the 85% threshold much sooner. It's not like vaccines have been in short supply or hard to get.

Our offensive k rate is also almost 3% lower than the next closest team. Best playoff series indicator

Is it really?

Your opinion or is there something to back it up?(seriously asking)

Obviously Ks suck, but just putting it in play usually isn't enough either.

That is really interesting. Basically, once you cull the heard it's the difference-maker because everyone at that point checks the boxes at being pretty good. Because plenty of teams missed the playoffs with low strike-out rates.

Assume full health.

Which 13 pitchers do you keep? Which 5 are in the rotation?

Options (20):
Abreu
Baez
Bielak
Emanuel
Garcia
Greinke
James
Javier
McCullers
Odorizzi
Paredes
Pressly
Pruit
Raley
Scrubb
Smith
Stanek
Taylor
Urquidy
Valdez

**leave JV off**

If we face a heavy right handed team in a playoff series then you can leave Emanuel off for another righty

Raley has no options, so if he's out, he's out for good. Emmanuel will likely be the guy who goes down, if for no other reason than to stretch him out as a spot starter. Plus, he's not available for the post-season with his PED suspension bleeding into this year, so you'd rather find other bullpen arms to rely on if possible.

Greinke
McCullers
Valdez
Urquidy
Odorizzi (I'm predicting what the Astros would do here, not what I would do. I'd put Javier in the rotation myself)

Didn't realize his suspension causes him to not be available in the post season. Still doesn't change my mind on Raley and Smith. Neither are worth keeping on this roster once we get healthy. Odo and Parades are back this month likely and Framber sometime in June. 3 big decisions are coming up pretty quickly
