Jason Castro is batting .192 in 18 games with 23 Ks. The fact that someone things he's an upgrade at catcher or even a good addition blows my mind.

What the Padres are doing makes no sense. They trade for a zero hitting catcher in Jason Castro. Then trade for Nola, who is batting .306 with an OPS of more than .900 in 28 games this year. Why are they bothering to get Castro? I get Nola, who has a ton of years of team control and who looks like he may project really well. But it makes the Castro trade a head scratcher.

They are getting depth and defense with Castro.
Just because a team trades for a player doesn't mean they traded anything of value for him -- Reyes is 27 years old and isn't going to add anything to the Padres roster in the next 2 seasons.
Padres dealt Trammell. Wow. He is a pretty good prospect.

Padres going all in, but if this doesn't work they wont have any more bullets left in the gun next year. Its a gutsy strategy. Fortunately they have so many young players playing now that their window should be open for a while.
