I wonder...
1. How much of this funk is the result of the never ending off-season bashing the club took over what NY called a "scandal"?
2. How much of this is attributable to Dusty? Is he not connecting to the players? He's 180* different than Hinch. Why did they sign Dusty to an extension?
3. If I remember right, the season really began to nosedive when JV went down. Did that break their confidence?
4. The injuries have really piled up. Are we looking to a bunch of rookies to step up into to roles they are not prepared to handle?
5. I don't doubt but what the umpires are influencing games with inconsistent calls.
6. Just my random thoughts...some of the answers are readily apparent.

it's really strange.
against the 2 elite teams...Dodgers and A's...the pitching has been very good, but the hitting has been awful.
against the second division teams...Mariners, Angels, and D-Backs...the hitting was very good, but the pitching was subpar.
the pitching and hitting can't get on the same page...which is what usually happens to .500 teams

To be fair, that was a pretty talented 6 seed with Dream and Clyde and Dream was the best player in the league at the height of his ability, even if Robinson got the trophy.

To be fair, this team is pretty talented with Altuve, Bregman, Springer, Correa, Alvarez, Brantley, and TED and TED was the best player in the league at the height of his ability, even if Trout or Judge get the trophy.

4 is a big one. Straw, Stubbs, garneau (maybe) And Toro in
clutch situations or playing meaningful time at all is not gonna cut it.
Misplayed flyballs are rarely errors unless the glove was on it.
How about when Jim Joyce's blown call with two outs in the ninth ruined Armando Galarraga's perfect game bid? I'd say that's the worse way to lose it.

That was the most brutal way to lose a perfect game I have ever seen. I'm glad Joyce realized his mistake and apologized, but man that was tough to see.

Honestly I wouldn't doubt it. Manfred probably feels pressure from these entitled and stupid fanbases who think we didn't get disciplined enough so he's sent down orders to have close calls not go our way. Bregman has had tons of bad strike calls this year.

We have a AAA bullpen. Its amazing we've been so close in most of these losses. Give us any of the last 3 year's bullpens and we wouldn't even be having this conversation.
I guarantee Yordan makes the difference in a couple of these close ones as well.

If we do lose George and Brantley then I'm fine with Bradley Jr if we don't get anybody in a trade. If Tucker could play center then that would solve some of our issues. Or if Alvarez was an everyday OF instead of DH. I know they are hoping Straw develops but I think he's still two years or so away from being an impact player (if he ever becomes one).
Ideally Tucker would move to a full time rightfielder so I'm guessing they work with him this offseason out there.
