I was thinking the other day and was curious of everyone's thoughts.

What if, at the start of a game, the home team could decide if they wanted to pitch first or bat first?

Similar to choosing to defer or take the ball after winning the coin toss in football.

I don't think that's entirely true. I do think it would be very, very rare.

What if analytics favor the team that takes the lead first?

What if you could do it in a situation like we had with Keuchel when he had his first inning yips? What if you could start that game ahead before he even pitches? Maybe it takes the edge off and allows him to attack.

At the end of the day, it's more valuable to have the bottom of the 9th as a last opportunity, but there might be certain situations where the numbers favor you.

Kinda seems like a stupid change with no good reason why it should happen. Might as well start all counts at 1-1 like intramurals or maybe base runners dont get erased after a half inning ends.

Wait, what if we switched to cricket paddles and golf balls?
Could we incorporate some of the rules from basketball to make baseball a more backyard friendly game?

Ain't going to happen simply because it would be cost prohibitive to reconfigure every MLB park to the same dimensions. It would likely mean almost every team would need a new ballpark in order to get every park with the same foul territory, same wall height, etc . .

Allow the lead off batter first batter to put a ball in play for each half inning to determine whether that inning the baserunners will go clockwise or counterclockwise.

Should be:

Right handed go counter-clockwise
Left handed go clockwise
