If these suggested baseball rules gain any steam and serious consideration then we can kiss college and NFL football goodbye this year.

Any idea what they are going to do with all of the stadium giveaways this year? They made 40k of each for every game and there were some pretty awesome ones

Just trying to rile the masses.

Guess that's one plus to this delayed season...We're avoiding half a season's worth of Tucker v Reddick debate.

LeBron James' Uninterrupted to Produce Astros' Sign-Stealing Scandal Documentary

Quote:

"The documentary will transcend the baseball diamond to explore larger themes of greed, cheating, corruption, sportsmanship and social media activism," Quibi said in a press release.

The documentary is tentatively titled Sign Language, and the fledgling mobile network says it will be the "definitive documentary about the scandal that rocked America's pastime."

I'm sure it will be 100% based on evidence and fact, with no part of it based in speculation on the "buzzer" theory of 2019 since there is zero evidence.

I think Preston could have had a nice platoon niche if teams used him more effectively. His first year up he had a .806 OPS vs righties. It wasn't as good his 2nd and 3rd (one year in the minors) but still at or slightly above avg vs righties.

Average platoon hitters have to be plus defenders or they aren't adding any value to the team. Preston was a below average defender. If he can approach being an average hitter again, someone might take a shot on him since he's still pre-arb, but once the salary bumps up, the value isn't there.

But, it seems like he's got a good thing going on Korea. His long-term earning potential is likely higher there. Plus, he wins free Kias.

The governor update today bodes well for the Stros playing at MMP this Summer. Just need to get a deal done.

don't really think it makes a difference. was really no doubt that just about every state would allow pro sports teams to play by July, and was never any doubt Texas would

OK, I light of MLB maybe not making it's way back this season, I propose the Houston Astro board pick one of these three teams to put our collective fandom toward and root for in the Korean Baseball Organization. That Kiwoom Heroes feels a little too on the nose...

Descriptions are from an ESPN article:

Doosan Bears: The Bears enter the 2020 season as defending champions, and one of the teams to beat in the Korean Baseball Organization. Located in the capital city of Seoul, the Bears are one of the more analytically inclined and well-run organizations in the KBO, often thought of in the same light as the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros (pre-trash-can-banging scandal). Managed by Tae-hyoung Kim, the Bears lost reigning KBO MVP Josh Lindblom to the Brewers, who gave the pitcher a three-year, $9.125 million contract. But they return 2018 MVP outfielder Jae-Hwan Kim, who hopes to bounce back after hitting .283/.369/.434 with 15 homers in 2019, down considerably from his MVP numbers (.334/.410/.657 and 44 homers).

Kiwoom Heroes: Marked by a fun and aggressive playing style, the Heroes are considered on-field rebels. Korean baseball tends to be more conservative, with players routinely looking toward the dugouts for signs from coaches. With a farm system run by former Yankee Shane Spencer, the Heroes play a style of baseball slightly more reminiscent of the American game. Daniel Kim, a reporter who covers the MLB and KBO for MBC Sports in Korea, likened the Heroes to the Tampa Bay Rays. The Heroes were embroiled in legal trouble in recent years after their owner, Chang-Suk Lee, was convicted for embezzlement, and they are considered a black eye on the sport by some fans. The team also developed former major leaguers Jung Ho Kang and ByungHo Park.

NC Dinos: The Dinos are one of the younger teams in the KBO, playing their first season in 2013, but they have emerged as a winner in their short history, making the playoffs in five of their seven seasons. Washington Nationals slugger Eric Thames became a star with the Dinos during his three-season stint from 2014 through 2016, hitting .381/.503/.790 with 47 homers, 42 doubles, 140 RBIs and 40 stolen bases in 2016 while winning the league's MVP award. Dinos outfielder Sung-Bum Na is a client of agent Scott Boras and is expected to pursue a career in the major leagues.

Billy Wagner has a good Astroline interview this week with Sparky and Kalas

I didn't realize his final season at age 36 with the Braves was arguably his best, best ERA

He could've easily statpiled successfully another couple of years and helped cement his HOF status

If you believe relievers should be in the HOF then Billy should get in.

He's 6th all-time in WAR yet 59th in IP.

Lee Smith is in the HOF. He's WAR is 1.2 higher than Wagner's yet he's pitcher ~350 more innings.

If you look at relief pitchers with >500 IP
ERA - 4th
WHIP - 4th
FIP - 6th
xFIP - 4th (not calculated for everyone)
K - 6th (everyone ahead of him has a significant IP lead)
K% - 4th (He's behind Kimbrel, Chapman, & Jansen)

Especially when you think about league average in their primes.

From 00-09 it ranged from 16.4% to 18.0%
From 10-19 it ranged from 18.5% to 23.0%

regarding closers and the Hall of Fame...it's the one position where you better have been a superstar in the postseason like Mariano Rivera was.

closers should not get in the Hall because they were really good at closing out the Marlins or Pirates on a random Wednesday night in June or July

Hoffman pitched in 12 postseason games, only 10 were in close games (within 3 runs). Of those 10 he sucked in about 4 of them, including his lone world series appearance.

I probably did more research on his postseason just now than most of the voters. I don't want to give too much weight to 55 batters he faced, but if what you said were true with the voters, he would have a big black mark on his resume.
