Obviously I'm kidding Glenn Davis was good ... but in my lifetime it's been a barren position outside of Bagwell and Gurriel

Some Bagwell perspective.

Since 1950 - Players with some 1st Base Exp - WAR (wRC+)
1. Pujols 87.7 (144)
2. Bagwell 80.2 (148)
3. Rose 80.2 (121)
4. Carew 72.3 (132)
5. Thomas 72.1 (154)
6. Murray 72.0 (127)
7. Cabera 70.6 (146)
8. Palmerio 70.0 (130)
9. Thome 69.1 (145) nice
10. Musial 67.9 (149)

Can someone explain how he wasn't a first ballot HOF lock? He's gotta he one of the most underrated players of all time.

Played during the steriod era. All guys in that time will have issues.

Tell that to...
  • Roberto Alomar (2011 class, 2nd year, 110 OPS+)
  • Barry Larkin (2012 class, 3rd year, 116 OPS+)
  • Frank Thomas (2014 class, 1st year, 156 OPS+, Bagwell Clone but Black and worse baserunner)
  • Griffey Jr (2016 class, 1st year, 136 OPS+)
  • Piazza (2016 class, 4th year, 142 OPS+)
  • Rodriguez (2017 class, 1st year, 106 OPS+)
  • Jones (2018 class, 1st year, 141 OPS+)
  • Guerrero (2018 class, 2nd year, 140 OPS+)
  • Thome (2018 class, 1st year, 147 OPS+)

Baseball writers pick and choose when they want to care about steroids and decide who was and wasn't on them.

All schools in Texas closed through May 4th

Looks like that means no mass sports gatherings until at least then as well. Not like we thought it would be that soon anyways. But that means Early june still best cast scenario on MLB season

Did you still have hope for April? I sure didn't. I think mid June is the earliest. Probably after the 4th of July.

But when it comes back, it will be glorious. All sports, all the time.

No not for april... but I thought maybe there was a <10% chance for a Mid May start at spring training workouts based on the 8 week recommendation.

hopefully that just means they will do neutral site until then if MLB returns. I know they were potentially tossing the idea of Tampa bay doing half a season in montreal and have in TB. So that might be a possibility
We all know Tampa Bay has been very willing to work with teams in the past based on what they did for us during Harvey

Also the Astros could possibly get some good publicity if they offered and hosted some neutral site games for teams that can't host their own.

It's getting bleaker each day unfortunately

I am just hoping our competitive WS potential window isn't closing rapidly.

We had a great shot at winning this season. With potentially Springer and Brantley leaving, and JV/Greinke getting older. That window gets smaller next year. With the cheating scandal it would really suck if 2017 is our only title

I actually do think there is still a legitimate chance they play the season. Will it be traditional? Hell no. They will ease back into it with no crowds and other restrictions, but I think Manfred is going to do everything in his power to get the season in even if it has to be reduced in size.

At some point the season just becomes ridiculously short. Could you do a 100 game season leading into the playoffs? How about 75? It's just tough where you draw the line.

I think for May to happen it would have to be neutral sites/ no fans. Full-on baseball in June even seems like a stretch.

I think the most likely scenario right now is that "Opening Day" is when the all-star break would have been. (7/14) .... but we're all just sticking our finger in the air and guessing at this point.
