The only reason this is a narrative is because a bunch of MLB players basically said the Astros deserve to get plunked every time they come to the plate. You're now surprised people are counting? If players had said they couldn't wait to bean Tigers players, people would be counting those to. That's why one is being tweeted out and the other isn't. This isn't that hard.Panama Red said:And Tigers have been hit 6 times in 4 games. What does that extrapolate out to? Why no tweet on that?JCA1 said:Ag_07 said:
Completely misleading. Not every HBP is intentional.
Some of the guys already hit weren't on the 2017 team, won't be on this team, and we're hit by guys vying for roster spots on other teams.
Where did anyone mention intent? And why does that matter? HBP is HBP. Are you suggesting it doesn't count as a HBP if deemed unintentional?
He quoted a stat for most HBPs in a season and then extrapolated what the Astros season numbers would be if they continue at this pace. Now, I agree that some were likely unintentional and highly doubt this pace will keep up for long. But the numbers are the numbers.
It "matters" because as the other poster said its someone pushing a false narrative.
Having said that, I agree that 4 games is too small a sample size and even if they are thrown at, it will likely pass within the first month of the season or so. But when people in sports make comments like have been made against the Astros, people are gonna follow it.
