That's why the Red Sox fired their GM. He put them in a financial box that they can't get out of.

If you are the Astros would you offer Yuli for J.D.? That saves them roughly $15M this year.

At least they won a World Series while in their box.

Hell no

JD has no defensive worth at all. He's a full time DH. We have one making the league minimum.

Well you'd have to feel comfortable Yordan is your everyday 1B.

J.D. has been great the last 3 years, but his OPS did drop by 90 points this past season.

he also hits into a lot of double plays...and the 'stros already have issues in that area

I like the fact that the Red Sox owners didn't care about that (the recent championship) --- did not buy him extra rope. Boston wants to be in the playoffs every year

that's right.

this is where the Giancarlo contract really hurts them. The Bombers don't have enough for Judge, Cole, Giancarlo, and one of the 2021 shortstops.

that would be 4 players in the $30 MM club --- and Cole & Judge will be closer to the $35 MM club
Unless Joe Buck is writing the contract I don't see Judge getting more than 25M.

I've seen the arbitration number on Devo at $1.75 - $2M. I'm assuming they hang onto him as those numbers

Why hang onto $2m for an arm you don't trust out of the bullpen when you can bring up an arm you don't trust from the farm for $500k?

The team didn't non-tender Devo, so he will get whatever the arb number is. Astros declined the option for 2.8 which is way more than they think the arb number will be at say 2mil. Devo will still be on the team.

He was in Korea for a couple years. Maybe he becomes Mikolas. Who knows.

Interesting fact: Astros apparently drafted him 14 years ago.

Seemed to do ok bouncing around for a few years, until he ended up with the Rangers. Hard to blame him for not surviving that pitching graveyard.

Here's my ridiculous off-season plan of the day:

Sign hometown boy Rendon and shift Bregman to short
Package Correa and Reddick for good young starting pitching still on a minor league deal
Make a deadline move if necessary for a rental pitcher, limiting the financial hit- pen or rotation help
Win over 100 games again, beating everyone into submission like the '27 Yankees offense

Hey, it's just a theory...

Rendon Loved the heck out of the Crawford boxes.

If you're gonna pay Rendon might as well pay Cole.

I think one aspect that's being overlooked is the BP. Lot of FAs and it could look a lot different out there in 2020.

OK, ridiculous afternoon plan of the offseason...

  • Trade Reddick for anything, mainly cap relief, and sign right-handed batter Avisail Garcia ($3-4 million) as a platoon player with Tucker in right field. He hit 20 homers 2019 with an adjusted OPS of 111. Compare that to Reddick's 14 HR / 89 OPS+ this year.
  • Spend all available money on pitching.

Holy hell!

Was just browsing MLB's historical top prospects.

What if I told you.. that in 2012.. Jake Marisnick was the 35th best prospect in the game, 1 spot behind newly drafted Carlos Correa, 2 spots behind Anthony Rendon, 4 spots behind Xander Boegarts, and ahead of Gary Sanchez, Jackie Bradley Jr, George Springer, Aaron Hicks, Jorge Soler, James Paxton, Trevor Story, Chris Archer, Noah Syndergaard, Addison Russell, Yasiel Puig, and many, many others?

Number 1 on the list..

Judging by the girl in the pic he has been motivated

BBWAA short lists are out.

MVP- Bregman, Semiem, Trout.
CY- Cole, JV, CFM
ROY- Alvarez, 2 chumps.
Manager - Hinch didn't make the cut. Ironic isn't it.

Hinch didn't make the cut because half this board would have led the team to a World Series.

Except the tucker guy.

Not hard to believe. Jake has all the tools...except pitch recognition.

Unfortunately that's a big one.

I have no respect for Tyler White, access to nutritionist and trainers and yet he couldn't take baseball serious enough to give the appearance that he was in any semblance of shape.
