I wouldn't read into that too much. Arizona uses crushed gravel and a different pad under their turf than what the Rangers will use. The crushed gravel can eventually leave soft spots in the turf.

We will likely use a solid base and different pad. It will be better than Arizona

I thought it looked good and looked to play well. Was concerned hearing reports about really sore legs and overly soft feel under foot. I am hoping for the best.

It looked like cheap plastic from the tv view. Just like all turf.

Conor Sadzeck with the save today. For the 13 AND 2 Seattle Mariners.

Ugh.
Way too early in the season to be freaking out about Seattle or any other team for that matter.

Our team has low expectations this year to say the least. You might not care whose leading the AL west 2 months from now.

Hence my frustration with the guy we gave up on getting a save for a division rival.

He was out of options, so he either had to be on the 25 or be exposed to waivers/traded. He had plenty of chances, but control was his issue. Has the velocity.

Sometimes a new team with a new pitching coach makes a difference. It'll be interesting to see if he can be successful in Seattle or if he reverts back to previous form soon.

I'm not even sure how Seattle is winning all these games. They were supposed to be middle of the pack in the West at best after letting several of their top players go (Cano, Paxton, Cruz. Seager is hurt too).

If this gets used against the Rangers when seeking potential free agents I'll be pissed. For years certain free agents weren't interested due to the Summer heat. Now we fix that issue and now we have playing surface concerns?

"It was a bit concerning," Gallo said. "I thought it would a little different than it was, but it felt just like any other turf. We talked to some of [the Arizona] players, and they said to be ready to ice your legs."

Said Mazara: "It doesn't [feel] right, right now. It was a little too soft, and I feel like I sunk in a little."

Not good and completely unsurprising. It's the same old **** with a slightly different fill, and they are acting like it's some miracle surface. Mazara's comment makes sense - really all they did was try to make it less bouncy by using a different infill. So the comments about sinking into it make sense.

We'll see how stubborn and committed to concerts vs. baseball that the organization is now.

That is the frustrating part. The Rangers are acting like they chose the turf because it is better than grass.

Why can't they just be honest and say they want a multi-purpose facility and turf was the only way to accomplish the goal?

It's bull**** that they are using turf when every single one of the players and coaches that make up the organization prefer natural grass. It's ridiculous and embarassing

The solid base will prevent the sinking

No one knows if the pad will make a big difference. We all ignored your comments because they come from the Rangers. No one believes their propaganda.

If it can't be us at the top, I'd rather see the mariners do well than the Astros.

I'm all for an artificial surface if they can get it right, but the fact is, we'll be guinea pigs for this whether we admit it or not. The solid base is what a lot of players have complained about in other turf installations. You'd think they'd have a lab somewhere where they set up a 50x50 portion exactly like we'll be getting.

Concerts are great...but if you're getting increased wear and tear on those 9 digit player contracts, is it really worth it?

So why wouldnt they have used it in Arizona? They just wanted an inferior, sink-feeling field? Sorry, not buying the PR. Logic tells me there are trade-offs being made by each team. There will likely be some downsides to the firmer Arlington version that Arizona tried to avoid.

How much demand is there really for another 50000 seat concert venue?

I imagine it's effectively the same reason as they keep building apartments in College Station. If you build a newer nicer one you can steal the business from the older ones. They just have to think they can be better than what's available.

IIRC there is a gap between AAC at 20k and Jerryworld at 65k.

They are pouring money into the development around the Ballpark and Jerry World. They are hoping to cash in before, during, and after the concerts and games. I doubt there was ever serious consideration given to putting grass in for the new stadium.

Is that a gap that needs to be filled?

I feel like there are arena concerts and then there are stadium concerts for those truly huge acts. Doesn't seem like there are acts that can sell 35k that can't sell 55k

I don't know if is a true market gap, but there is a venue size gap.

I think we had a discussion on this, in the off-season.

In addition, the AAC supports the Mavs and the Stars. Each plays 41 home games, plus pre-season, plus possible post-season all between September and April. That's about 240 days.

November through March (5 months) the Rangers can easily sway many events from the AAC, with an enclosed facility that has a turf surface.

The Kiss concert I went to at the AAC was on a Wed in Feb. The schedule that week was:
Tues: Stars
Wed: Kiss
Thurs: Stars
Fri: Mavs
Sat: Mavs

I think the experience was muted because it was mid-week.

Out of position for single with bases loaded.
Catcher setup on wrong side of plate for next run.

That's two outs no runs vs one out three runs.
