Yordan Alvarez is 2-2 with 2 doubles tonight and is now hitting .400 on the season.

Meanwhile there is a position player on this 25 man roster that is hitting .094 and a DH that just picked up his 1st RBI 30+ games into the season

And Tucker was hitting .332 with 24 bombs and 93 RBI last year before getting called up.

Tucker with a bases clearing double with bases loaded in the top of the 10th. Alvarez was intentionally walked 2 batters prior with 0 outs. Ultimate respect there

He has an 880 OPS over his last 10 before tonight. He looks to be rounding back into form.

Was at SunTrust yesterday and watched the Padres beat up on the Braves. Caught some of the Astros game afterwards at a sports bar next to the stadium. Didn't miss much, I guess.

Oh well, hopefully the schedule gets a bit easier now with the Angels, Royals and Rangers coming up. The offense is sitting right square at the league average in terms of runs scored per game. I look forward to the offense getting on track as they have really been feast or famine recently.

When the team averages 2.6 runs in losses how much impact does 1 or 2 outs make?

In a not super, but still early knee jerk reaction: who we gonna add thread.... who should the targets be?

A) 1st baseman: Alvarez (promotion), Cabrera
B) SP: Samardzija, Caleb Smith, Bumgarner, Trevor Williams, promote within
C) DH/OF: promote Alvarez, promote TED, Puig, Mancini

Thoughts?

The problem with promoting guys is that we are out of options on others, so guys like white and kemp and Marisnick would be put on waivers and there is a chance you can lose them for ? My guess is they wait, play the long game and bring them up when and if there is an injury, or possibly try and trade one or both to get compensation before bringing the other up.

Understood. White and Kemp are both tradeable...

Marcus Stroman

This is what I want and I'd be willing to part with a really nice package. He'd boost the rotation the remainder of this year and he's controllable so not a pure rental.

With Cole most likely gone we need a high caliber #2 to take his spot. Stroman would be it. I think he could be this year's JV that puts us out in front as a clear front runner.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/climbingtalshill.com/2019/05/01/astros-stroman-market-consideration/amp/

Quote:

This strategy seems to be working for Stroman, the 28-year-old is sporting an ERA of 1.43 on the season. Although his record is 1-3, he has been dominant on the mound only ceding three earned runs once this season and two or less in each of the other five games. He appears to be improving as the season progresses with a 0.47 ERA over the last three games.

A couple of good trivia questions - try to get them without looking it up:

What was the last season before 2015 that the Astros had a winning record?

Who is the only player on that team still on a MLB roster?

Also for those of you feeling bad about the recent skid, our current winning percentage (.563) would still rank 10th all-time among Astros & Colt .45s teams.

Not sure on the year. But I'd guess Hunter Pence is the player.

I don't think outfielders defense is going to impact the low offense output.

Meh. I went in to this season thinking we needed a starter. Don't think my opinion changed. Losing Morton and Dallas was no bueno.

I don't think Castro was drafted until maybe that year. I'd say Pence for sure, but couldn't remember if it was 08 or 09.

Winner, along with those that said 2008.

  • Bud Norris is a free agent (almost had a deal with the Nats in April but it fell through)
  • Matt Albers was on the team in '07 but was part of the Tejada trade
  • Jason Castro didn't get called up until 2010

Too bad they haven't taken advantage of Seattle's 2-8 record over the last 10 games.

Don't worry, they'll do it again.
