And I'm guessing Harper has a player option opt-out somewhere in there, which basically makes it an all-risk deal for Philly. If he's great, he opts out. if he's not, you are stuck paying him for 13 long years.

Actually there is no opt-out clause, and apparently that was per Harper's request. And there's a full no trade clause

Davidson, Guzman, and Wisdom with HRs today thus far today. Smyly had a 1-2-3 inning in his first spring appearance today.

Davidson sure seems like a better fir at 3B than Cabrera (power and RBIs)

I would pay an extra $10 every time I went to a game if it meant we would have Harper.

I think the hope for this year is that the offense and field defense are fun to watch and productive. THen the pitchers will be mediocre at best and we wont make the playoffs, but at least an enjoyable last season.

That's not how ticket prices work... I guarantee you that the Rangers and all other teams hire a firm to do a market analysis based on historical data and then price the tickets in line with what they think is appropriate in order to fill the stadium to "x" capacity for 81 home games taking into account supply and demand as well as expected team performance. The owner doesn't just say, "well crap I just spent $330 million on Bryce Harper lets get those ticket prices jacked up so I can recoup my money." If ticket prices go up it will be because fans in Philadelphia have an increased demand to see a team that many now expect to be very competitive next year.

And I agree with Ryno, I hope Philly wins so we can break the Astros paradigm of making teams historically bad for 5 year stretches hoping to hit the jackpot in the draft. This is a team built through FA with McCutcheon and Harper and trades with Segura and Realmuto as well as with international scouting (Franco) and a shrewd rule 5 pickup in Herrera in addition to a couple of draft picks (Hoskins and Nola) that have worked out well. (Although Hoskins is terrible on defense)

Just because we announced the lineup for this season doesn't mean we're done adding. For example, we have A&M Commerce on board, just haven't set a date yet

Don't know what to think about that. Figured he would be good trade bait this year to get some prospects.

Of all the things to spend on....I think he would be one of the last. I'd think wed need to spend to have a lead instead of keeping one.

A good, young closer locked up for 4 years at a good price is even better trade bait. There are 2 club option years for an additional $13 total on top of the 4 for $14, so he's under club control for up to 6 years.

So I heard an interview with the new manager. I was relieved to hear him talk about not giving away at bats and grinding and not chasing outside the zone. He did not sound like a 2 true outcome type of guy. Was more interested in doing the right things and let the results take care of themselves from there. Talked alot about controlling what you could and not giving in to the opponent. Was really encouraged

I hope he's more of a "new age" manager than Banister was. Haven't heard much out of him so far.

What i heard was a mix of historically proven contact and base path pressure mixed with analytics. For instance he was talking about working with Joey to keep him in the strike zone. Was contrasting what his batting avg would be if he was disciplined to not chasing vs the results so far. Also sounds like he is huge on communication. Elvis worded it that he was actually working with players and not "sitting on a throne" ordering the around. Really encouraging stuff
