I see so much of what Tom Hicks did, in recent actions by the Rangers.
You know what is going to happen... once the stadium is complete, MLB will award them with the AllStar Game. So, STH are on the hook now, for the new stadium, then have to stay, so they have their AS tickets. They'll get pissed when they get bumped back, for the game to make way for all the League.
So the Rangers have about 4 years of being crappy before fans abandon them.
In the case of the Stars, Hicks benefited from the ASG to keep his STHs, all while orchestrating a shutdown resulting in a hard cap on salaries. The Stars sucked after that, until he had to sell the team because the passionate fans got out priced for the product and Corporations couldn't give away enough seats to justify the expense.
4 years. 2019- broken season, 2020 new stadium, 2021 announcement of ASG, 2022 ASG... 2023?
I had Dallas Stars season tickets for 10 years, dropped them in 2009 and have been to 3 free games since and haven't watched a game in TV.
