So AP I take it you are the resident Rangers employee/rep.

What exactly is the process for seat selection in the new stadium? Everything thus far seems rather vague in how exactly appointment times and selection is going to take place. I know with A&M they could lean on "priority points", but since those don't exist with Rangers how is it going to be done?

Will season ticket holders with the longest tenure get first selection of anywhere in the ballpark, or just able to choose from a "similar area" to what they currently sit in, designated by Rangers?

Does a 10-year Corner Box season ticket holder get to choose his seats before a 2-year Lower Box season ticket holder?

Last email that got sent out mentioned "upgrade now in globe life park to get the best seats in globe life field" -- which makes me believe that it's about location and not tenure?

Great question! I'll break it down for you and try to make seem as simple as I can

The order of priority is as follows:
1. Type of plan
2. Location
3. Tenure

Each seating area in the current ballpark is mapped out into different zones. We are scheduling appointments by zone, with the most premium areas being scheduled first. So that's why in that email it said to upgrade your ticket plan to a better location, so you can come out earlier.

Full and half season ticket plans are the only (as of right now) types of ticket plans that will be offered comparable seats in the new stadium. Based on the appointments I've had so far, we've done a great job of offering seats that are extremely similar, in terms of location, in the new stadium.

No. Lower box is considered a better location than corner box, so the season ticket holder in the lower box will have their appointment before the season ticket holder in the corner box.

At this time, we've held appointments for STHs in home plate seats, VIP Infield, and Premium Dugout. Next will be Premium Infield, and those will take place starting January 22, and will go through February 15.

Hope this answers your questions. If anyone has any other questions, let me know. Also, I'm happy to answer questions over the phone if you feel so inclined. Just shoot me a PM and I'll provide my direct line at the ballpark.

I agree that the aesthetic of the field affects the viewer experience. I don't even like watching a game in a dome as a tv viewer. I also don't like having the ball bounce over the fence several times a game.

Regarding the comments from Gallo and Chirinos, honestly how often do their feet really touch the artificial turf at their positions? When rounding first base on a base hit or HR...when the catcher fields a bunt...and when the 1B fields a bunt/slow-roller. Am I overlooking anything? During warm-ups, I suppose.

Almost every ball in play. The catcher and 1B have backup responsibility if the play isnt at them. They also are in the grass in foul ground

The article stated they tested this and that there was no difference between real grass and their turf

I've got tickets to see Kiss and Billy Joel at Globe Life Park.

Brings up the question... Who will own GLP and get the revenue for concerts there? And why wouldn't any concerts thought to be in the new Park... just be hosted at GLP.
Since when is Kiss coming to GLP?
OOOppppsss... They are at AAC, glad I realized now, so I didn't show up at the wrong venue.

It is Paul McCartney. I have tickets to all 3.

I would be down for the Billy Joel concert if it were in an arena. I'm not sure if something will be difference since the season will be over, but any time I stay for the postgame concerts lately, the acoustics are TERRIBLE. Also, we play Bama that day. Sorry Billy.
I've really connected with one of my boys on some older music and we've seen some cool shows.

He told me he wanted to go to the Foo Fighters, so I got us tickets to Starplex (I forget the name). I've seen Paul McCartney and I think he is among the top performers of anyone. He just loves to entertain. Kiss was a pioneer in mega concerts.

I think between the 3 (McCartney, Kiss & Billy Joel), it should be a pretty good year.

Kiss is on a Wednesday. I told my wife and kids, anyone who wants to go can miss school the next day.

I'd skip KISS unless it is a band you have never seen and they are on your bucket list.

I've seen them many times over the years and saw some great shows as recently as 2002/2003. The last few times I saw them they appeared to mail it in.

Just my opinion and take it for what it is worth. By all means if you must see them, then go.

Tickets are bought. It kinda is a bucket list.

It is billed as "their farewell" tour. When asked about the show, I think it was Paul Stanley said they weren't going to play anything obscure... all their hits. They didn't want anyone say, "What song was that?" They did their previous farewell in 2000, when two members (Frehley and Criss) were on their way out. I'm hoping it is real laid back, like putting on a "Best of..."

Two of my boys are teaching themselves instruments and they love the classics. My older did Journey and 70's rock, for their marching band. See Kiss, McCartney and Joel, IMO, are ones performances/shows you'd like to see modeled and/or appreciated.

Saw them five years ago and none of them can make it through the show without leaving the stage. Morley Cre played too and the only member of either band that didn't need a break was Tommy Lee.

Back to baseball. Turf sucks. LOL at the Orioles.

By all means, go check them out. I love KISS and thought about taking my family but decided not to spend the money. Have a great time seeing one of the all-time (in my opinion) great bands.

So the Rangers are kicking the tires on Clay Buchholz? He fits the profile, injured late last season and has had previously injury history, so should come cheap. We will see if it works out. If nothing else, an extra starter for when/if one of the others breaksdown.

Who underwent TJ in November 2018... and as a player eligible for Rule V, he is on their 40... and won't be pitching in 2019.

Granted he'll get moved to the DL60, once that starts, but he'll hold a roster spot until then. 2 years of off-seasons he'll hold roster spot.

I dont think BH is on the Rangers list of "to dos" this offseason. But, if you want to drive up the value of guys like Choo, Mazara and Gallo, he would improve the pitches those guys get, and likely their numbers, making them better trade bait.

Harper should be on everyone's "to dos" if they have the money. Kind of insane he hasn't signed yet.

On another note, reports say the signing of Cabrera will move Gallo to the outfield exclusively for 2019.

**newsflash** Rangers sign another retread pitcher that is **not** recovering from TJ surgery.

Quote:

The Texas Rangers have signed veteran relief pitcher Zach McAllister to a one year deal, the team announced today. McAllister, 31, is a righthander who has spent the bulk of his career with the Cleveland Indians. The reports from the national reporters indicate that it is for $1 million.
McAllister was a starter for the Indians in 2012-14, but has pitched almost exclusively out of the pen since that time. He was a solid pen arm for Cleveland until 2018, when he got released after putting up a 4.97 ERA and 4.51 FIP in 41.2 IP. He was then picked up by the Detroit Tigers, who released him after three outings, with McAllister having given up 8 runs in 3.1 IP.
The Rangers have been looking for additional bullpen arms to fortify the pen, and McAllister is, well, a bullpen arm. He'll presumably have the inside track for a middle relief role to start the season.
The Rangers' roster is now at 40.

Cabrera and Wisdom will apparently share 3B, with Cabrera also serving as the utility IF since he can play 2B and SS as well. Wisdom will also spend time at 1B.

Apparently Mathis is a stud receiver and defensive catcher that will be great in mentoring young guys. His Bat is going to be MIA though. Pitchers had a sub 3.50 ERA when he was catching over the last 3 seasons (all in the NL) including 3.16 last year.He is currently 18th among active players in Defensive WAR.

https://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/WAR_def_active.shtml

He may have a ton of brutal ABs but don't judge him by his back of the baseball card stats.

Man, if you really want to get jazzed about the season, then get giddy about the success of all the retreads that will be targeted for trade. Spend the season with an eye on MLBTradeRumors.com, 'cause the Rangers are going to be crazy busy with rumors.

The Rangers have a ton of young SPs both home-grown and acquired. Those guys are fun to follow, especially if they don't get hurt and when they are doing well. I try to post information about them every so often. The main thing I'm excited about for ST, is where the young pitchers get assigned and watching how they do.

The Rangers are loaded with 1 yr contracts.

Smyly (SP)
Cabrera (IF)
Martin (RP)
Shelby Miller (P)
Edinson Volq (SP)

And many who are FAs after 2020 (2020 Salary):
Choo ($21M)
Minor ($9.8M)
Chavez ($4M)
Mathis ($3M)

The Rangers have a number of young players that are controlled and likely traded.
Mazara and DeShields are A2 next year, FA after 2021.
Gallo and Leclerc are A1 next year.

Aside fro that, they have Andrus, Lance Lynn, Odor and a bunch of Serfs and Arbs.

They are at $110M in 2019, $82.7M for 2020 and $35.9M for 2021.

If there is a 2nd thing I'm excited about, it is cheering on Cabrera, et al, to see what we can get for them.

There will be some fun things to watch with the MLB team, but my expectation is that it will be more frustration than it is worth watching.

I was a STH for the Dallas Stars for 10 years, but the last 3 years, Hicks destroyed any enjoyment I got out of the NHL, as was the case with a significant number of fans and STHs. As a result, when Hicks finally sold the team, the new owner struggled to rebuild the fan base.

Interesting read on younger players in the MLB and the decline of the middle aged veteran type player LINK

Quote:

Let that sink in: older players are less useful now than at any point in at least a generation. Think about that when you think about free agents Bryce Harper or Manny Machado signing contracts beyond seven yearsones that would require their clubs to pay them elite dollars at age 33 and older.

Clubs prefer younger players because they generally mean cheaper, healthier players with more defensive range, more positional versatility, and faster bats to deal with the high-octane pitching environment of today. Of the 11 best hitters last year against pitches 95 mph and faster, all of them played in their age 30 or younger season
