Relevant to our discussion. My online buddy Chris Perry makes a case for why George Springer could be an MVP candidate. It's hard to argue with him.
He's entering his prime.
He's got power.
He's got speed.
His K and BB rates moved into the right direction last year.
He's plus plus defender.
If he has an aberration BABIP year like Jonathan Villar had last year, then I think he could be a 6-7 WAR player.
Bad thing is he plays in the same league and division as Trout.

The tools are there for George. He's just got to do a better job of making consistent contact. Can't win MVP being a .260 hitter. Needs to hit at least .300 which seems like it is out of George's range.
MVP seems very farfetched even with some key improvements. However, I do agree he's in his prime and trending the right way.

He's been stroking it really well in ST (.333/.358/.549 and .908 OPS). The double he smoked into LF yesterday was a thing of beauty.

I do not have the saber stats in front of me, but I thought Altuve was actually considered a bad base runner last year because of all the outs he gets into from taking too many chances? I do not know where Springer rates, but I rememeber seeing some article that rated Altuve pretty low.CorpsAg11 said:

If he were to have a .350-.370 BABIP year (which with his speed and ISO and K rate trending in the right direction), he would put up a monster year. I got on Google Sheets to extrapolate last year's numbers to reflect higher BABIPs.
At .350 - .283/.381/.485

I looked at the metrics just now and you are right. Based on Fangraphs, Altuve is a below avg base runner (UBR = -1.1) but an above avg base stealer (wSB = 1.5) whereas George is an above avg base runner (UBR = 2.2) but a terrible base stealer (wSB = -2.8).
Basically Altuve gets picked off a lot and makes other mistakes on the base paths, but George gets caught stealing a lot.
Correa is the only Astro that is above avg in both of those metrics.

Thanks. That is what I remembered about Altuve and interesting about Springer. My guess is that the base stealing metric might be the one for which significant improvement might be able to be made, especially for someone with speed like Springer. While base stealing requires instincts that in some situations cannot likely be taught, I think the heat of the moment general baserunning decision making is more instinctual and, therefore, more difficult to correct.

Benintendi is getting tons of hype right now. I thought it was a bit weird how he didn't go earlier in the first round (maybe right after Swanson and Bregman) after winning SEC PoTY that yr.

Bebintendi was the best player that year in the SEC, no doubt. I think they, Swanson too, can all have great careers.
