Another great play by Correa at 3B. Still think the Astros would be a better team with Bregman at short, and Correa 3rd. Correa would never agree to it though.
Like I've said in this thread before... Hinch loves the analytics and playing shifts. I'd have them switch between the two depending on what shift we are doing and where they would be better served. Correa's length vs Bregman's speed.
Not only no, but hell no. I think Correa makes for a better 3B with Bergman at SS.... but just no on switching back and forth. That's just flat ignoring the human element of the game and muscle memory theory. You have to balance both sides to be successful.
Wouldn't be very often... Just move Correa to third against those hitters that hit hard balls down the 3rd baseline. The extra reach to dive for some and height to snag them.

I'm inclined to think that Correa at 3rd and Bregman at SS would be a better fit also, but I think I need a larger sample size on Bregman to make that call.

The Astros have also said that with the amount of shifts they play, the 3rd baseman plays what's almost a classic short stop position a lot anyway.

I know the old adage is that you need a strong arm at 3rd, but you need your strongest infield arm at SS. They have to make the deepest throws on the infield on a way more often basis than the 3rd basemen do. That being said, if the Astros see Correa and Bregman being about the same defensively, Correa's arm is a clear tie breaker.

That's overthinking it, to say the least. Would add a new degree of being "Hinched". Just not a good idea at all, in my opinion.

Stros should continue to play Mr Correa wherever he prefers to play.

Wrong. They should play him wherever his play helps the team win the most games and compete for championships.

A good leader puts his people and organization in those situations where the probability of success is highest. A great leader makes his people think it was their idea.

If it guarantees him signing a long term contract, then let him play catcher if he wants

Odor almost broke the leg of an angels second baseman doing the same thing. F him

I can't see moving him to 3rd as a reason he'd leave and not sign. If he leaves then he was always gonna be a Yankee anyways.

Have you seen the odor slide? That was not a baseball play. He starts hid slide on top of the bag. He could have ended that guys career.

Take it to the odor thread.

There's also intentionally throwing the ball at the guy sliding into second instead of actually trying to turn two. That decision was made by Odor before Bautista even started his slide.

But there's no use arguing with someone who is blinded by the uniform the guy is wearing. Carry on with your hypocritical ways.

I like Bregman at third for that reason. He'll be the lone man on the left side versus a lot of lefties.

I'm merely responding to posts made and one directed at me. If you don't want the topic discussed I'd suggest you direct your concerns at your fellow Astros fans who brought it up.
How about you discuss him in your thread, and we can discuss him in our thread. Don't make staff come in these threads and clean them all up again this year. Go away.

As for this thread, we all pretty much agree he is a piece of ***** Maybe not as much as his disgusting little brother, but to act like Odor is clean or these are baseball plays is ridiculous. Better yet, don't come over here and talk down to us like we are incapable of discerning the difference between clean or dirty slides.

And just so we all have evidence.... This is a DIRTY DIRTY play. I'd be ashamed of an Astro or Aggie player doing similar.

Not dirty at all in Rangers' fans eyes. They get it straight from their manager who encourages this type of ***** He's a dick, too. It's just "Banny-Rooster's" style. Gritty and old school.

It's trash.

The Astros have at least shown the ability to squash that kind of crap pretty quick when Brett Oberholtzer threw at Alex Rodriguez. He wasn't pitching bad, but he was demoted and traded. In Ranger's fans eyes, it would have been cool to throw at ARod because he's a dick and everyone hates him (the Bautista argument).

What is the issue with Bregman at 3rd and Correa at SS?

Correa is a very good defensive 3B but an average SS. Bregman is about the same at either position.

You know this how?

I'm no talent evaluator but it's Just from what I've observed by watching.

Correa botched a handful of pretty routine plays for a SS that I think he makes at 3B and Bregman makes at SS.

I will agree with you that Correa is not a great SS. He's capable of making some true web gems, but his great isn't elite and he's flubbed a few. He was 7/12 qualified SS in the AL this year in fangrpahs DEF rating.

However, I haven't seen anything from watching Bregman that says he's a surfire better SS. He has his resume of web gems as well (mostly college from my watching), but I think it may be shortsighted to claim he's the better option at SS until we see it. Or until the coaches see it enough make it happen.

I agree with this. Especially if Correa keeps filling out.

I don't think Bregman is a better SS I'm just saying that there's not a drop off with Bregman at SS vs 3B like there is with Correa at SS vs 3B.

So in my opinion why not move them?

But at the end of the day if they're both in the lineup and both happy where they are why screw up a good thing?

Agreed. Swapping Bregman/Correa is not very high on my list of life problems

Wow I was looking at stuff on fan graphs and will Harris is tied for lowest projected ERA at 2.25 with the likes of Andrew miller, chapman, melancon, and wade davis

It was 1.90 in 2015 and 2.25 in 2016. Projecting 2.25 isn't crazy. He just didn't seem like he had the makeup for the closer's role.

9th Inning teams had a .842 OPS against him. In the 6th, 7th, and 8th anywhere from .268 to .484.

Really wish Bregman would have received more playing time. I'm guessing he won't start the championship game, even though Arenado had another 0-4 night tonight at 3B.
